Gotta love that headpiece!  Grandma would have been proud!

Zara Phillips showed the Aussies how it’s done when she stepped out in a fancy millinery creation at the Melbourne Cup on November 3rd.

Zara, who is reigning eventing world equestrian champion, left the jodhpurs at home, instead choosing a lovely royal blue prom-style dress by Thread Social which she wore with elegant black peep-toe heels. But it was her choice of headwear that garnered the most attention – a black-feathered design by British veteran milliner Philip Treacy, which added several inches to her height.

“Ascot has a lot of rules about dress codes, so it’s nice to be able to be a bit more relaxed and for women to be able to wear skirts that are a bit shorter,” she told The Australian. “Of course the other thing about Melbourne that’s great is that the weather is better!”

Other celebrities in the event include Olivia Newton-John, Ronan Keating, and Benji and Joel Madden
