How lovely!
Prince William and Kate Middleton are making hundreds of thousands for charity from their engagement TV interview. Broadcasters from non-Commonwealth nations pay £1,500 per minute for footage of the chat.
All profits go to good causes through the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry – set up last year. They could include Help for Heroes, homeless charity Centrepoint and wildlife group Tusk Trust.
A St James’s Palace source said last night: “William and Catherine were aware that there was likely to be a demand for the interview and broadcasters would be prepared to pay for it. They saw it as an opportunity to make money for the causes that are close to their hearts.”
The 20-minute recording of Wills and his future bride has huge value as it was the first time Kate had spoken in public. Access to the interview was free for 24 hours after it aired. Since then non-Commonwealth broadcasters have to pay a licensing fee.
A source at ITN, which owns the November 16 footage, said: “There’s no fixed rate but it’s working out on average at around £1,500 a minute. It’s selling well, as you would expect, so the charities are really benefiting from it.”

Prince Harry on German charity fundraiser
At last! Some news on dear Harry… Prince Harry is to appear on a charity fund-raising show on German television later this month.
Harry is to speak on the Ein Herz für Kinder (Have a Heart for Children) show on December 18 in Berlin. The annual gala evening, which is attended by celebrities and business people, will be broadcast by ZDF public television.
The evening will raise money for children’s charities. Harry is to appeal for funds for Sentebale, a charity he set up jointly with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in April 2006. The organization aids orphans and children in danger in Lesotho, which has the world’s third-highest rate of HIV infections.
