Prince William Enjoyed His Stag Do — Privately

In the days of Princess Diana, the press would have definitely caught Prince William’s much-buzzed stag weekend on camera.  And Kate’s wedding dress would probably have been leaked.  Things have certainly changed for this royal couple.  Surely they are delighted with the bit of privacy…

As reported, Prince William enjoyed his stag do in a Norfolk estate over the weekend, and none of the press was there to spoil it.

When Prince Harry was given the job as best man, many thought the party would involve downing cocktails at a string of top London nightclubs. It later emerged that Harry was planning a water-themed celebration with high-speed boats and water skiing in Exmouth, Devon, this weekend. But he changed plans at the last minute after details were leaked.

Instead a low-key event is said to have been organised attended by around 20 close friends believed to have been at a Norfolk estate.  The guests are reported to have included James Meade, Thomas Van Straubenzee and Hugh Van Cutsem.

According to the Express, the total cost of the weekend was not anticipated to exceed £2,500 as the 22-man group stayed at the sprawling country house.  The event would have taken place closer to the wedding on April 29, as is the tradition for stag parties, but Prince William has a number of royal engagements.

“I can confirm that Prince William’s stag party happened this weekend,” says a source at St James’s Palace. “It was an entirely private event and we don’t intend to make any further comment.”

Media Obsession Over the Royal Wedding

Very interesting article on the media storm that is expected on Prince William & Kate Middleton’s wedding.

The royal wedding is expected to command the biggest audience in TV history. On the horizon is already an explosion of movies, talk show coverage and princess shows…

An estimated 2 billion TV viewers will see all or part of the coverage of Prince William and his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton exchanging vows at Westminster Abbey. Add an expected 400 million for online streaming and radio and the number swells to nearly 35% of the world’s population. An additional 800,000 observers likely will crowd outside Buckingham Palace the day of the event, many of them tweeting and Facebook posting and shooting video with their phones.

It will be a media explosion.

CNN alone will have a team of roughly 400 reporters, cameramen and crew assigned to the wedding. The same network has 50 people on the ground working on the breaking news in Japan, plus others scattered in Bahrain, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.

BBC America, “home of the Royal Wedding,” has prepared 184 hours of related documentaries. TLC will air 89 hours of programming. From Wedding Central to the Disney Channel, networks are incorporating the event into their lineups. American morning and celebrity shows will send teams to London to cover the event. A TV movie is already in the works….

Prince William in Australia: Day 1: A touch of Royal Magic

After a 2-day tour of New Zealand, Prince William brought some “royal magic” to an area devastated by what is thought to be its largest cyclone in a century. The prince visited towns in Queensland that were pounded by Cyclone Yasi in February this year, meeting people affected by the devastation.

It was blistering hot, but “pasty” Wills didn’t disappoint.  Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says it perfectly: “It’s been almost impossible for these people, but a little royal magic is just what the doctor ordered. William has put people at ease, as we say here in Australia, he takes the mickey in a very kind and genuine way. The people of Australia have been very charmed by him.”

William even commented that he and Kate might go back to Australia for their honeymoon, prompting shrieks and applause from the crowd.

Royal Wedding Update: Two crowned heads are NOT coming to the Royal Wedding. Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako will skip the wedding in light of the country’s recent earthquake & tsunami disasters. At the same time, the King of Bahrain has spared William & Kate the embarrassment of protests by declining his invitation.

Prince William Visits New Zealand

Picture: Getty Images

For the past 2 days, Prince William has been representing the Queen in an official visit to New Zealand following the deadly 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit the country last month and killed 180-plus people.

On Thursday, William visited Christchurch, witnessed the damage first hand, commended rescue workers and privately met with some of the survivors.  He calls the scale of the damage “unbelievable.”  He also visited Greymouth, where 29 miners died late last year when a gas explosion tore through the Pike River colliery.

On Friday, he visited quake-ravaged Sumner and greeted the crowds before heading back to Christchurch to speak during a memorial service attended by 30,000 people.

“My grandmother once said grief is the price you pay for love,” the Prince told the crowd, passing on his condolences from the royal family.

Kate’s see-through dress that first “caught William’s eye” fetches £78,000 at auction

The see-through dress worn by Kate Middleton at a charity fashion show at St Andrews University has been sold for a whopping £65,000 plus £13,000 buyer’s fees.

It fetched more than sixfold of the initially estimated £8,000-£10,000 price.

The winning bidder is a man at the back of the sales room, who would not give his name but said the purchase was on behalf of an individual named “Nick from Jersey”.  He said of the buyer: “He thinks it’s an iconic piece and is very happy with the purchase.”

Designer Charlotte Todd, a fellow St Andrews student, said she didn’t know Kate at the time and that the dress just luckily landed on the princess-to-be during the fashion show.  She now plans to put the money into buying a house with her husband.

On a cute note: Studying pictures of Prince William & Kate Middleton, body language experts have said that they have “industrial strength” rapport and closeness, having been together for years.  Articles from The Sun and the Daily Mail show the pair doing identical waves or mirroring each other in their recent official functions.  Cute!  Arthur Edwards of The Sun also gives a photographer’s opinion on Kate thus far.
