The Queen’s Jubilee… Kate’s Fashion… Security Cuts…

Britons rejoice! We’re looking forward to a four-day weekend next year to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Ministers and Buckingham Palace will announce the official timetable of events marking the monarch’s 60 years on the throne within the week – with highlights including a nationwide Sunday lunch and a river pageant. Putting back the annual May Bank Holiday to Monday, 4 June, next year, and adding a special Jubilee Bank Holiday on Tuesday, 5 June, gives everyone a 4-day weekend. An announcement confirming the plans is expected on Thursday.

Millions are expected to join the celebrations next year, which will begin on Saturday – 2 June. Ministers hope they will kick start a “feelgood” summer which will climax with the Olympic Games in the capital.

Security Cuts hit the Wessexes

The Earl and Countess of Wessex are to lose their team of six protection officers as part of moves to cut the £100 million cost of Royal security. Prince Edward and Sophie are said to be “very unhappy” about the proposal to strip them of police protection when they are not on official engagements. They plan to dispute the decision.

The Wessexes have six protection officers who work on a rolling rota, which costs the taxpayer an estimated £1.15 million a year.  Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have also been reported to lose their personal bodyguards to cut costs, although Prince Andrew is trying to contest the decision due to their HRH status.

Princess Catherine & Fashion

Princess Catherine meets Michelle Obama

So the Duchess of Cambridge reignited a buying frenzy the minute pictures of her and Prince William meeting the Obamas were released. Several articles about this:

But despite all this, studies show that Princess Catherine has actually been outpipped by little sister Pippa in the media following her wedding. As she and Prince William found recluse in their honeymoon (they are said to have been photographed but the press has decided NOT to publish any pictures — wonderful!), Pippa has been followed around London and Madrid, and featured in newspapers, TV shows and websites. Pippa has, statistically, become the more popular Middleton. And wondering who made Pippa’s gorgeous green dress at William & Kate’s reception? Meet Alice Temperley.

Royal Wedding Bridesmaid Selection

Lady Louise

Little Lady Louise picked as royal bridesmaid

Prince Edward’s seven-year-old daughter Lady Louise Windsor is said to be ‘beside herself with excitement’ after being asked to accompany Kate Middleton down the aisle as her bridesmaid.

In the past Prince Edward and wife Sophie have been reluctant to allow Lady Louise to be photographed because she was born with exotropia, a rare condition which causes a divergent squint. But they now realise she will have to become used to public life and as a Royal bridesmaid she will become, for one day at least, one of the most photographed girls in the world.

The source added: “William and Kate made the decision together.Sophie has been very helpful to Kate, advising her on all the do’s and don’ts of Royal life. She has been a real ally. Sophie and Edward are both really pleased to see how happy this has made Lady Louise. She really is the loveliest, kindest, little thing. Edward and Sophie have always been terribly protective of her but she is now at school. They know she is going to have to get used to being in the limelight.. And you couldn’t deny her this chance. It is the perfect age to be a bridesmaid – not too old to be intimidated or embarrassed. She is so, so excited and they are all going to look terribly sweet walking down the aisle.”

It is believed William & Kate have also asked Viscount Linley’s eight-year-old daughter Margarita to accompany her, along with Grace Van Cutsem, the three-year-old daughter of William’s friends Rose Astor and Hugh Van Cutsem.

It is almost certain that Kate’s younger sister Pippa, 26, will be maid of honour at the wedding, bringing the total number of bridesmaids to four – one less than Princess Diana had at her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981.

William & Kate News / Gossip:

Prince Harry Seen in Gay Bar

News of the World (paid site) has an article of Prince Harry staggering out of the Soho nightspot Box Bar at 3:30am Saturday morning – “with his shirt lifting out of his jeans”. The bleary-eyed prince had spent several hours Friday night with a gaggle of blonde girls and male pals at the club, where they watched a raunchy burlesque show.  They were there celebrate the birthday of a pretty female pal, who turned up to the club in a sparkly crochet dress and faux fur jacket.

There was no sign of Harry’s famous ex, Chelsy Davy, even though she’d enjoyed a private dinner with him in London last weekend. Insiders insist they are “just good friends”.

Harry was also spotted during a night out in Salisbury with RAF pals few days ago.  And word has it that he and William also spent Saturday night out in London.

Christmas 2010 for the Royal Family

The Queen, who wore a festive white coat and fur hat, was joined by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke of York, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and the Earl and Countess of Wessex for their annual Christmas church service in Sandringham. The Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Harry led the Royal party on foot

More than 1,000 well-wishers lined the route to St Mary Magdalene Church on the estate in Norfolk. But several onlookers expressed disappointment that two of her grandchildren, Prince William and Zara Phillips, were absent.

Prince William volunteered to be on call yesterday at RAF Valley in Anglesey where he works as a search and rescue helicopter pilot, while his fiancée, Kate Middleton, was spending her final Christmas at her family home in Berkshire (see below)

The Queen used her annual Christmas Day message to the nation on Saturday to highlight the importance of sport and “team spirit” to unite communities. Breaking with tradition, the messagewas recorded last week at Hampton Court.

In her address to the nation, the Queen spoke of the “co-operative endeavour” used to compile the Bible and “bring harmony” to the country, which she linked to team efforts displayed throughout the world of sport. The broadcast was illustrated with footage of Princes William and Harry playing football with youngsters during their tour of southern Africa earlier this year.

Royal Family Whereabouts

Happy Landings as the Royals End Their Holiday Cruise

The Royal Family were in high spirits yesterday when they took a walk down memory lane at the end of a 10-day holiday cruise.  Three generations of royals, with Peter Phillips’s pregnant wife Autumn carrying a fourth, disembarked the five-star cruise ship, the Hebridean Princess, and took a nostalgic trip to the late Queen Mother’s home, the Castle of Mey.

The Queen paid £300,000 out of her own private funds to charter the 49-passenger vessel, although it cost taxpayers an estimated £1 million for police, divers, dog handlers, Ministry of Defence police marine units, and a Royal Navy Type 23 frigate, HMS Kent, to provide security for the trip.
