Admirers of Kate Middleton’s appearance at a charity auction might like to know how much effort went into it. The answer is not very much.
Just hours before the weekend’s Starlight Charity Event at the Saatchi Gallery, Kate strode into the nearby Chelsea salon of hairdresser Richard Ward – whose royal clients include Sophie Wessex – sans make-up and sans fuss.
“She sat down to wait like any other customer, leafing through the magazines,’ says a fellow client. ‘There was no VIP room treatment or diva demands. She had her hair cut, washed and blow-dried by Richard, and asked only for a glass of water to drink. She was in and out in just over an hour. Even in jeans and no make-up she looked fabulous.”

Columnist Linda Kelsey of The Daily Mail wrote a rather snarky article questioning Carole Middleton’s choice of wardrobe for Saturday’s Starlight Charity event. Considering that Kate wore a long, gunmetal grey Issa frock alongside her mum’s short, coral one-shoulder dress, some people are suggesting that mother and daughter should have swapped gowns. Despite Carole’s figure and killer legs, did she commit another faux pas in the eyes of the press?

I’m personally tired of the Middleton bullying. Carole, of all, seems like the easy target. Along with her gum-chewing incident at William’s Sandhurst Graduation and less-than-appropriate choice of words, she’s been labeled as the desperate social-climber who’d do anything to see her daughter become a princess. Is she really? I see nothing but a supportive mother who had the ingenuity and courage to give her family a better life. From flight attendant to multi-millionaire, she’s uplifted the family status. Sure, she may not be the perfect mother to the future Queen. Yes, she uses words like “toilet” and “pleased to meet you.” And dear me, she crosses her legs in public and sometimes dresses a bit young for her age. But is she tasteless? Rude? Chavvy? I don’t think so. Has she done anything to hurt the public? Not at all. So why insist on finding the littlest bit of imperfection? How sad that some people find such fulfillment in ridiculing others.

Shy Prince William has been wining and dining Kate Middleton at a restaurant where food is scoffed in pitch dark.
The lovebirds have become huge fans of the wacky London eaterie, a source close to them revealed. Diners at Dans Le Noir? in Clerkenwell are told their tastebuds are heightened when they can’t see. But the insider said: “William can take Kate along and know no one will see him. He’s actually very shy. He feels uncomfortable when people stare.”

This weekend rounds an unusual number of articles regarding Kate.
The Middletons and Starlight
Kate’s family hosted a table of 20 guests to help raise funds for Starlight, a UK charity for terminally ill children. Their family business, Party Pieces, has been involved with Starlight parties of the past year. The entire Middleton clan — Carole, Mike, Kate, Pippa and James — along with William, attended the formal event.
Carole says: ” Kate
has been the inspiration behind our involvement with Starlight Children’s Foundation, a UK charity that helps brighten the lives of seriously and terminally ill children by granting their wishes and providing hospital entertainment.”
Kate parents also donated a party for 20 children as part of the auction prize. After the event, William is said to have joined Harry and the Middletons in nearby Raffles to cap off the night.

Daily Mail Columnist Katie Nicholl claims that William and Kate have recently been spotted at Gatwick airport after returning from the south of France, flying economy with two casually dressed protection officers. If true, it’d be their 2nd beach holiday together this summer (they were in Mustique in August).
‘They were very sweet and very normal,’ says my source. ‘They were casually dressed and boarded the plane with the rest of the passengers. They were very smiley to anyone who recognised them and spent most of the flight chatting away. At one point William leaned over and gave Kate a cuddle.’

Kate Gets a WAG Watch (News of the World). Kate sported a WAG-looking bling on a night with William to watch the movie Surrogates. The watch isn’t actually new. She had been seen wearing it exiting Raffles in July.
The Middletons’ Plan to Expand Garden Shelved (Express). The Middletons’ hopes of keeping up with the would-be in-laws have been nipped in the bud after an ambitious garden project at her family home was pulled up at the roots.
Uncle Gary Kicks Habit (Sunday Express). Adam Helliker says Kate’s druggie uncle, Gary Goldsmith, has done time in rehab in Kent and has since returned to his mansion in Ibiza with a promise to stay away from the habit. [Note that his "source" quotes "Carole and Roger" as Kate's parents. Kate's dad's name is Michael/Mike.]
