Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen
Today’s royal world is abuzz with one intriguing story — that Sarah Burton of the Alexander McQueen label has landed the most coveted role of designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress.
It started as an exclusive report from The Sunday Times. The paper says the label’s chief executive, Jonathan Akeroyd, reportedly told a colleague that the company had won the commission. It is said that Miss Middleton had considered Sarah Burton after liking the dress she designed for Tom Parker Bowles’ wife Sara Buys on her wedding day.
However, both CEO Jonathan Akeroyd and Sarah Burton have denied the story.
Sarah Burton: “I am not doing it.”
Jonathan Akeroyd, CEO: “Not at all. I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it.”
A spokeswoman for Alexander McQueen: “Sarah is busy working on her new collection for the Tuesday show and she was as surprised as the rest of us to hear about this. She is not designing the dress.”
Clarence House: “We always knew that there would be a lot of speculation about the appointment of the designer. Because Catherine Middleton is keen to keep this private, we are not responding to this in any way at all.
All these firm denials don’t mean much… Either way, papers believe that Kate’s dress designer is sworn to secrecy, and the identity — whether it be Sarah Burton or not — will only be revealed on April 29.
If Kate indeed chose Sarah Burton, it is already being heralded as a bold and brilliant choice by fashion experts.

Kate Middleton & Fashion
Kate Middleton certainly looked bellissima in the striking red outfit she chose for one of her first Royal walkabouts. The pure-wool jacket and skirt Kate wore for her visit to St Andrews with Prince William is likely to trigger another nationwide run to the stores.
So which label was behind this elegant scarlet look? The Mail on Sunday reveals that Kate’s stylish outfit was created by Luisa Spagnoli, the Italian ready-to-wear label beloved of screen sirens Gina Lollobrigida and Sophia Loren.
Kate purchased the striking £160 skirt and £335 ‘sushi’ jacket from Hollie de Keyser in Knightsbridge, Central London.

Choosing Sarah would be a bold decision for Kate and one unlikely to happen. Kate is far too conservative a person to pick such an edgy designer. Honestly, coupled with British first lady Samantha Cameron, Britain doesn’t have the best fashion ambassadors. Which is a shame because London has some great talent, but they always end up leaving for either Paris, New York, or Milan.
