Prince William & Kate Middleton’s official engagement portraits by Mario Testino
Two new official photographs of Prince William and his fiancee Kate Middleton, taken by Mario Testino, were released Sunday to mark their engagement.
One portrait is an intimate close-up of the prince hugging his bride-to-be, while the other shows the two 28-year-olds in a more formal pose, standing side by side in the red carpeted council chamber of St James’ Palace in London.
They were taken on November 25, nine days after the couple announced they were finally tying the knot after an eight-year romance. The wedding has been set for April 29 next year, at Westminster Abbey in London.
Peruvian-born Testino, who was responsible for some of the most enduring photographs of William’s mother Princess Diana had this to say:
“I am very happy to have been asked to cover this historic moment that the whole world was waiting for. “They are in their prime and brimming with happiness. I have never felt so much joy as when I see them together.”
In the formal photo, Kate is wearing a white dress from high street retailer Reiss, while he is wearing a dark suit, blue tie and white shirt from Turnbull and Asser. In the casual one, both were in jeans.

I feel Kate is good arm candy but what goodness has she brought to the table is correct Michael. How many days has she took to help out with ANY of the charities of the family she is marrying into. She has good and bad, as we all do Michael, but I too feel William should have found a soul closer to his mother’s. However, it is HIS choice, there must be more there HE knows actually being with her, so let’s support Williams pathway currently chosen and pray for the goodness to shine out of her so we can see what he is.

I don’t think Kate is a bad person but I do think she’s a little delusional. She has this disney-like, fairytale image of what it’ll be like to a princess but it’s actually hard work. A lot of other women who have become princesses had a high paced careers. Charlene was a competitive swimmer (which takes hours to train), Latizia was a well respected and dedicated broadcast journalist, both Mary and Sophie where advertising executives. Kate, on the other hand, had spent the first eighteen months after university doing nothing, then worked less then a year as a accessories buyer for a family friend (which was a position create for her) where she worked three days a week and was allowed to take off whenever she needed. Since 07 she’s worked part time helping her family business. Kate isn’t dedicated to anything besides William which makes her a good girlfriend but not a good royal. Whenever she travels it’s for leisure not business. For the rest of her life Kate will be compared to both Diana and the Queen, who were both diligent at their role. The pressure and pace that these royal duties go by is astronomical, and unlike their male counterparts, female royals have to perform their vast number of engagements in heels. Even though William wants to slowly introduce Kate to royal life, once he’s done the military and they become fulltime royals, I feel that Kate is going to find it overwhelming.

I think Kate is a perfectly ideal princess from what i see. She’s clearly William’s choice and i think we will soon see why. We are just beginning to know her. Those who condemn her for being too common and whatnot are judging from speculative reports over the years. I am very excited to know the real Catherine and I think she will do well. William clearly adores her! Beautiful couple!

She’s obviously very photogenic, but both of these images are quite poor IMHO. On the casual one she isn’t even looking into the camera, which is really the photographers fault.
