For centuries the mystery of the missing skull has puzzled scholars and left Aboriginal leaders frustrated and angry. But it may have come one step closer to being solved after the intervention of Prince William. He has helped in the international quest to locate the decapitated head of an Aborigine leader and warrior and return it to Australia.

The warrior Pemulwuy was leader of the Eora people of Botany Bay when the first group of British convicts arrived to establish a colony in 1788. After leading resistance to the colonists he was eventually shot dead on the orders of governor Philip King in 1802. King later recorded that he had ordered his head cut off, pickled and sent to England as a trophy. Many Eora elders firmly believe his skull is still in the UK and when William visited an Aboriginal centre in Sydney earlier this year they told of their efforts to track it down and return it for burial.

Prince William could serve with RAF in Ulster

Prince William has been cleared to serve with the RAF anywhere in the UK, including Northern Ireland province Ulster. The 27-year-old prince, who is in the final stages of his RAF search-and-rescue helicopter pilot training, could become the first member of the Royal Family to served with the RAF in Ulster since trouble began in the province over 40 year ago.

Senior RAF officers and William’s advisers are said to have cleared the prince to be available to be called out anywhere in the UK.

A St James’s Palace spokesman said: ‘There are no barriers to him serving anywhere in the United Kingdom. It’s not an issue for us.’

The likelihood of Prince William serving in Ulster could be increased if he is based at RAF Valley in Anglesey, North Wales, or the Royal Naval air station in Ayrshire, Scotland, as both bases regularly cover Northern Ireland.  An announcement on his first post as a Search & Rescue helicopter pilot is expected at the end of April.
