Prince Harry Set for North Pole Charity Trek

Loving Prince Harry and how active he is with his causes!

Prince Harry will fly to Norway on Monday to join four badly injured Afghan war veterans who are attempting to walk to the North Pole. Harry is expected to spend 10 days with the team, including a week on their trek across the pack ice once they set out on April 1, far longer than originally planned. He will cover around 70 miles of the 200-mile journey. The prince will pull a 150kg sled loaded with all the equipment he needs to survive in temperatures that could fall to minus 60 with the wind chill factor. It includes an immersion survival suit if they are forced to cross open water.

Royal Wedding News: 2 Cakes!

We count down to Prince William & Kate Middleton’s big day on April 29.   The latest big update is about the royal wedding cakes. There will be two — a traditional multi-tiered fruitcake in floral design, and a tea biscuit dark chocolate cake once a favourite of William.

A wedding cake by Fiona Cairns

The official wedding cake, to be the centerpiece of the Buckingham Palace reception, is to be made by Fiona Cairns. She has met Kate Middleton 6 weeks ago to discuss the details. Kate has been instrumental in the design and had a strong idea of what she wanted, Fiona says. The cake will be decorated with William and Kate’s new cipher – thought to feature the couple’s entwined initials – which will be officially released on their wedding day. Another theme will be the four flowers of the home nations – English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh daffodil and Irish shamrock. Kate has also asked to feature around 16 different blooms and foliage for their meaning – known as the “language of flowers,” and to incorporate elements from the Joseph Lambeth technique of cake decoration, where intricate piping is used to make three dimensional scroll work, leaves, flowers and other adornments.

As for the other cake, William has asked McVitie’s to create one of his favourite sweet treats that will provide an alternative to the official wedding cake by Fiona Cairns. As a young boy the Prince used to enjoy the cake, which is made from crushed rich tea biscuits and dark chocolate. It will be an unbaked cake.

Poll: People Want Charles for King, Not William

For the first time in six years, the Prince of Wales is the most popular choice to be the next King, while support for the monarchy is swelling.

Shortly after Prince William’s engagement to girlfriend Kate Middleton was announced last November, two polls showed a majority of Britons thought he should succeed Queen Elizabeth and not heir-to-the-throne Charles.  However, according to a YouGov survey for Prospect Magazine released on Thursday, that sentiment has now been reversed.

Almost half (45%) of people said they wanted the heir to the throne to succeed the Queen, while only 37% said they preferred Prince William.

Experts have speculated that the reason behind the change is that the public want to allow Prince William to enjoy his life as a newlywed before assuming a more responsible role.

British constitutional expert Norman St John-Stevas said there was no possibility that the throne could bypass Charles in any case.  “It would be a major breach of our constitution. It would weaken the monarchy, it would make Prince William’s task infinitely more difficult, it would be an act of gross injustice to Prince Charles who has done so much for the monarchy.”

Six years ago, almost one in five people (19%) wanted an end to the monarchy but the recent poll found only 13% of people now felt the same.

Another Successful Tour for Prince William Down Under

Australia Day 3: Prince William Ends 5-day Down Under Tour

Overall another very successful tour for Prince William, as he completes his “disaster tour” of Australia & New Zealand.

Prince William in Murrabit, Australia

William flew into flood-stricken Australian towns even as heavy rain pummeled another part of the country. He was welcomed by hundreds of people in Kerang town in Victoria state, one of dozens across Australia that were inundated earlier this year by the country’s worst flooding in decades.

He was welcomed by screaming schoolgirls, and even got a marriage proposal, for which he replied: “I’m sorry, you’re too late.” He also got a football kickabout with locals.

William leaves for the UK tonight after another very impressive tour that’s sure to boost the monarchy’s popularity Down Under.

William & Kate News:

Invasion of the Harry hunters

Now that William is off the market, this makes for a very interesting read about wide-eyed girls dedicating their days on bagging Prince Harry

As she squeezes through the crowds of inebriated young aristocrats at London’s Mahiki nightclub, Courtney Fleming tries to stay focused. The men are enticing, the beach music is infectious, and the “treasure-chest cocktail” foisted upon her by well-bred clubgoers is plenty strong. But she has come tonight on a mission that brooks no distraction.

The objective: find, seduce, and eventually marry Prince Harry.

This is no schoolgirl whim. The California Anglophile spent days before this trip poring over British gossip blogs to identify the hottest royal hangouts. Fleming is part of a small but resolute group of American “Harry hunters,” aspiring princesses who are crossing the ocean in hopes of capturing the redheaded royal’s heart (and the tiara that comes with it). Some rely on semesters abroad to lend an air of social normalcy to their excursions, while others simply count their pennies—or lean on their parents—to fund extended vacations in Britain. But the goal is always the same: to live happily ever after with a prince of the realm.
