No one is more excited about the likelihood of Kate Middleton marrying into the Royal family than Philip Treacy, the milliner.
“I’m a great fan of the royals because they have kept hats alive in the imagination of people all over the world and Prince William’s girlfriend is a great hat-wearer,” he told me at the launch of David Downton’s book, Masters of Fashion Illustration, at the Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair. “I have designed for her and she is beautiful, so hats will go on.”
Treacy, 43, does not yet have a Royal Warrant, but he is optimistic about future commissions. “Kate won’t be wearing a hat for the wedding, she’ll be wearing a veil … but let’s wait and see,” he adds. “They approach me; you don’t pitch up and say, ‘Can I make your hat?’ ”
