Princess-to-be Kate Middleton made her first public official engagement today as she accompanied fiancePrince William in a Lifeboat Naming Ceremony in Anglesey, North Wales, where he is stationed as an RAF SAR pilot.  As Kate’s first public day on the role, it also eerily marks the 30th anniversary (to the very day) of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s engagement

The verdict?  Very impressive, according to reports and royal correspondents.  Relaxed, natural and all smiles.  Proving she did her homework, Kate and William even impressed locals by singing the Welsh national anthem perfectly.

On a blustery podium, where the wind played havoc with Kate’s hair, William said, “It gives me huge pleasure to be introducing to this relationship, here and now, someone who is not only about to join the Family, but is also about to become an ‘Anglesonian.’ “

William said that while he does the “talking bit, she’s going to do the fun bit.” And with that Kate poured champagne on the lifeboat, named Hereford Endeavour.

After the lifeboat naming, the royal couple did a walkabout to greet the crowds
