William & Kate Appearances

In between this month’s appearance in Copenhagen with the Danish royals for Unicef and Remembrance Sunday, we saw the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge in 2 events: (1) a black tie gala for the National Memorial Arboretum Appeal, and (2) a meeting with The Prince’s Charities.

National Memorial Arboretum Appeal

William & Kate attended a black-tie reception in aid of the National Memorial Arboretum Appeal at St James’s Palace. The Duke launched the appeal, which aims to raise £12 million to develop the Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire, into a world-renowned centre for remembrance

The Prince’s Charities Forum

The following day, the Cambridges attended The Prince’s Charities Forum at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly. It is the first time Kate has attended the forum.  It gathers every 2 years.

Prince William to be Posted in the Falklands

We knew it was coming next year, and now it’s confirmed.  The Ministry of Defence announced that the Duke of Cambridge will complete a routine deployment as a RAF search and rescue co-pilot in the Falklands for 6 weeks on February to March 2012.   This will help him obtain his goal of captaincy by next year.  (Article)

Kate will not be able to join him for this posting.  However the newlyweds are slated to spend Christmas with the royals at Sandringham (another first for Kate) and celebrate her 30th birthday on January 9.  William will also be back in time for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations in June 2012.

Pippa Middleton & Alex Loudon Broke Up

Pippa & Alex kissing after the Boodles Boxing Ball last October

It’s true.  Kate’s little sister is back on the market!  Pippa has reportedly split from financier boyfriend of one & a half years Alex after weeks of blazing rows, including a recent public one during a friend’s wedding. (Original article from The Sun)

The papers are having a field day playing the who-dumped-who game.  Most say it’s a matter of quiet Alex not being able to handle Pippa’s sudden fame after she’s thrown into the international spotlight following her sister’s wedding.  The Daily Mail even wrote a rather snarky article saying Alex’s very discreet parents thought Pippa “sweet” but “not wife material” (I take this article with a grain of salt, as those really in the know would never talk to the press).  On top of that, there are rumblings of a 3rd party in the relationship (Pippa’s side). (Article)

Either way, Pippa is said to be finding comfort from Will & Kate.  She joined Will, Kate and her parents at Birkhall last weekend, where Kate was said to have been practicing her hunting skills in preparation for Sandringham.  And last weekend, word has it that Pippa joined old pal (ex-boyfriend) George Percy on a shooting party in Northumberland.

What’s next from this frenzy? Without a doubt more Pippa-Harry nonsense…

Mike Tindall Sacked from England Rugby Team & Fined £25k for “Serious Misconduct”

It’s a devastating end to the new royal’s career.  Mike Tindall, who married Zara Phillips in July, has been embroiled in a controversy over the World Cup last September when he was seen flirting & kissing a girl in a bar.  Later reports say the blonde was an ex-girlfriend, and that Mike had gone on to a second bar with the same girl.  Zara flew to NZ a few  days later, and all seemed forgiven

However, after a Rugby Football Union investigation of the said night, Mike was slapped with a heavy fine and kicked out of Elite Player Squad.  This will very likely mean the end of his career.  Mike is said to be trying to appeal the fine.

Prince Harry Knows How to Party — and Make Sick Kids Happy

Prince Harry has dominated the headlines this past week — as cameras captured him both at work and at play…

Last weekend Harry was spotted in Hvar, Croatia, partying  in a nightclub with good chum Tom Inskip.  A video of him dancing (not very well, it seems) and diving into a shallow pool fully clothed went viral.  Apparently Harry was letting his hair down in preparation for a long training stint in the US starting October.  He probably had a bit to drink and was clearly enjoying his time.  He was given a white shirt by the nightclub and was then seen in the company of a bevy of girls.  Naturally some of the girls talked about the experience.  This is Harry’s second holiday this summer.  He was on a week-long vacation in Mallorca with the Warrens last month.

Articles & Pictures related to Harry partying in Croatia:

While Prince Harry showed he could party hard, he proved the following week that he also knows how to do his job well.  On 31 August, Harry presented awards to a six-year-old quadruple amputee and a five-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer at the Wellchild charity ceremony in London. As patron of the charity, he made the appearance on the 14th anniversary of the death of his mother, Diana.  He delivered a humbling speech at the end of the ceremony.

This was Prince Harry’s final official engagement before advancing his Apache training in the US. He arrives in El Centro, California the first week of October for Exercise Crimson Eagle as the final part of his Apache training.

Meanwhile, ex Chelsy Davy was spotted with “new boyfriend” Taylor McWilliams in Ibiza (scroll down for article) over the bank holiday weekend.  They attended a party thrown by the nightclub Boujis, a favourite royal London joint.   Oh, and she flew economy to the island.  This is Chelsy’s second Ibiza getaway this year.  She was also there along with friends (plus Taylor, if rumour is to be believed) back in May.

Royal Updates: Riot Visits and charity expeditions

Royals Visit Riot Sites

A pleasant surprise in the past week as the royals represented by Clarence House: Prince Charles & Camilla, William & Kate, and Prince Harry all went out in 3 consecutive days to support victims of the recent riot attacks hitting the UK.  Well done!

17 August 2011

Charles and Camilla interrupted their annual holiday in Scotland to fly to London for the day and began their tour in Tottenham, where the violence started. Later in the day they travelled on to Croydon where they saw some of the fire-ravaged homes and businesses in London Road. In a rare down-to-earth display of approachability, Prince Charles was seen hugging victims and kneeling down to interact with children. These acts of violence are a “cry for help,” he says.

Prince Harry
Manchester, 18 August 2011

The next day, Prince Harry visited Salford Fire Station to begin three-stop visit to one of the areas worst affected by rioting and looting. He also met paramedics and police officers, some of whom were injured during the unrest. Harry, who was on leave from training at Wattisham Airfield as the riots spread across England, is said to have watched “in dismay and was “shocked and outraged” by footage of the disturbances. He commended police officers and ambulance crew for doing “a fantastic” job.

Birmingham, 19 August 2011

The biggest media coverage, naturally, went to William & Kate as they visited Birmingham. Their tour started at Summerfield Community Centre in Winson Green, close to where three men were knocked down and killed during disorder in the city. They had a 20-minute private meeting with the families of the men. William & Kate also met local residents, business people and emergency services staff and were told about what impact the rioting had on the city and the efforts behind the clean-up operation. Afterward, they visited a local business, the Machan Express coffee shop which was looted by up to 70 rioters. The people were very pleased that William & Kate came to visit, with the coffee shop owner even describing it as “the best moment of my life.”

Prince Harry: Arctic Heroes, Kayaking expedition + Love life updates

As we all know, Harry joined four British soldiers back in March/April in their attempt to make the first unsupported trek to the North Pole by wounded servicemen, on a charity expedition.  BBC is showing a 2 part documentary on the expedition.  Episode 1 aired on 23 August.  Episode 2 is scheduled for 30 August.   For those who missed it, videos are up on Youtube.

On 24 August, Prince Harry showed his support for a charity project by meeting the families of four British men recreating a daring sea escape from Nazi-occupied Holland during the Second World War. He visited the landing site of the gruelling 40-hour kayaking voyage in Sizewell beach, Suffolk.

Four Britons – Alex Greenwell, Ed Cooper, Harry Franks and Olly Hicks – began the journey on Monday night. They were joined by Dutch brothers Henri and William Peteri. Unfortunately, Mr Hicks, a seasoned ocean rower and friend of the Prince, will be the only Brit to finish the trip as the others had been forced to drop out through exhaustion.

Single Prince Harry

Prince Harry, Sizewell, 24 August 2011

So it was first reported last week that Harry has broken off his 2-month relationship with model Florence Brudenell-Bruce, citing that he does not want to be “tied down” amidst his busy Apache helicopter training schedule.  So he called time off with Flee, and didn’t join her in Ibiza as previously speculated.  (Article)

Then a few days later, reports say it was Flee who dumped Harry for his roving eye.  Dean Piper says she couldn’t stand him flirting with other girls and couldn’t see a future with the prince.  (Article)

So who dumped who?  Does it really matter?  Looks like the Harry-Florence saga might have just been a summer fling.  Or a temporary tabloid filler.  Time will tell…

Anyhow, Flee was spotted in London smoking (something she has in common with Harry, it appears) while having lunch with a friend, as her ex F1 racer Jenson Button strolled past with his currrent girlfriend.    Oh the drama!  (Article with picture)

What’s up with Chelsy Davy?

What about Harry’s other ex, Chelsy Davy?  She’s back in London after an extended period abroad.  Perhaps in preparation for her eventual training with law firm Allen & Overy starting September.  Chelsy was spotted leaving the nightclub Boujis with Taylor McWilliams, a friend of Harry.  He was reportedly one of her companions on a recent spring holiday to Ibiza.  (Article with pictures)

William & Kate Tidbits:

The day after their Birmingham riot appearance, William & Kate got a visit from Pippa and her boyfriend Alex Loudon.  Kate was spotted taking a walk and catching up with her little sister in Llanddwyn Island, near her new home in North Wales.   Nice to see the sisters maintaining their close relationship.  (Pictures of Pippa & Kate: beach stroll in Wales).

Roundup of Royal Week

August is always a slow month on royal news.  The Queen is in Balmoral and the rest of the family are laying low or going on private holidays.  News bits below:

Prince Harry

Last spring, Prince Harry was in the Arctic with a group of injured soldiers, who were completing one of man’s greatest challenges:  a 12-day trek across the ‘Devil’s Dancefloor’. Although Harry did not join them for the full 160-mile journey, he spent 10 days with them – including three days on the ice – sharing the very real dangers. Now a new documentary, Harry’s Arctic Heroes, reveals the bonds the men forged in such a hostile environment. New details emerge of Harry’s frostnip ears, and how he spared the Queen knowledge of the trek in case it upset her.

The documentary “Harry’s Arctic Heroes” will air on BBC One — Part 1 on 23 August, and Part 2 on 30 August — at 9pm.

In other news, Prince Harry has just returned from a week-long holiday in Mallorca with friends the Warrens.  There was no evidence that he met up with rumoured new girlfriend Florence Brudenell-Bruce in Ibiza as previously speculated.  Harry was recently spotted around London — jogging and eating.

William & Kate

Kate on the cover of People magazine - fashion special edition

The newlyweds said to be enjoying some quiet, private time together as William continues his work as a helicopter pilot in Wales.  On August 8, William & Kate were at the SAS headquarters in Herefordshire to receive safety briefings and meet injured soldiers and families of fallen members.  Though a private function, they delighted many people. Someone who met them tweeted this picture.  They are set to return to the SAS HQ soon for kidnap training, just as Prince Charles & Diana once did.

On August, 8, Kate was spotted shopping at Wilkinson (a hardware / family value store) in Wales wearing the same outfit (except the jeans) as the week before at Tesco. (Smart move, Kate!  Now those pap pics won’t sell as much)  Later in the week, an article says she was spotted in Kensington in London buying books.  There’s also some talk about their new home in Kensington Palace — with one report claiming they might move out due to lack of privacy, and another saying Prince Philip is helping them remodel the kitchen.  Seriously, one can’t believe anything they read these days…  William & Kate are also getting SAS kidnap training soon.  And they’re expected at Balmoral for a weekend.
