The Rise of the Middletons

Four generations ago, Kate Middleton’s ancestors on her mum’s side were coal miners.  When her great-grandfather left coal country some 90 years ago, who would have thought a great-granddaughter from such humble roots would become England’s future Queen?  Below is an interview of one of Kate’s relatives who still lives in northeast England.

Kate Middleton’s Royal Transition

Last week’s public appearances were a milestone for the future Princess Catherine — her first public engagements, her first walkabout… How did she do?  And more importantly, how has the Palace eased her transition to royal life?  Things have changed since the days of Princess Diana.  Here’s a good video from NBC to sum up the week:

Who’s in and who’s out of the Royal Wedding guest list?

David and Victoria Beckham have finally confirmed their attendance, with David saying: “You don’t say no to the future king of England.”

And who’s out?  Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary (sadly).  Reports say Denmark will have 2 representatives, and Frederik’s mother Queen Margrethe, a close friend of William’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth, and her husband Henrik have instead been reportedly included among the crowd of 40 foreign royals attending the event.

Harry & Chelsy News Bits:

More Trouble for Prince Andrew

The Duke of York should be sacked as a British trade ambassador, a senior MP has said. Shadow justice minister Chris Bryant claimed Prince Andrew had close links to Saif Gaddafi, the son of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

[box1]Prime Minister David Cameron said he would “look into” the connections with the Libyan regime and Prince Andrew made by Mr Bryant. Mr Bryant’s demand follows a series of recent controversies involving the Duke, including being photographed walking in a park with a convicted sex offender. He was recently pictured in New York’s Central Park with billionaire financier friend Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted child-sex offender who was sentenced to 18 months for soliciting underage girls. But a photograph emerged of the prince, nicknamed Airmiles Andy for his frequent trips, with his arm around the waist of Virginia Roberts, Epstein’s personal masseuse, who has alleged the billionaire sexually exploited her while a teenage minor. There is no suggestion the he was involved with Ms Roberts.

Andrew’s official role is as a roving ambassador for British trade, a function for which he receives no salary but thousands of pounds each year in expenses and travel costs.

Meanwhile, Prince Andrew’s ex Koo Stark defends him, calling him an “honourable man” and a victim of “misrepresentation.”
