Prince William says homelessness ‘tarnishes’ society

Prince William, who is patron for Centrepoint – a charity for homeless young people that he first visited with his mother – admitted that he has had a privileged upbringing but said his work with the group had given him a greater understanding of the issues involved.

In remarks focusing on the number of homeless people in London he said: “I realise that I am very fortunate. But through my involvement with Centrepoint, and talking with the disadvantaged young people it looks after, I feel I have an understanding of some of the issues surrounding homelessness, one of the many manifestations of poverty in this capital city.”

William Not Prepping Wedding Invitations Just Yet

Not quite William Tell… Prince William had a go at archery while blindfolded when he visited a rehabilitation center for blind and partially sighted British servicemen. A blind member of the Welsh Guard gave the royal an exhibition in bow-and-arrow technique. Afterward, William gave it a shot, but he couldn’t hit the target even with the blindfold taken off.

Later, another blind serviceman, Simon Brown, asked Wills if he might have an invitation to his wedding.  The Prince laughed off the question, saying, “Oh you will have to wait a while yet.”

Prince William at the BAFTAs

Prince William has been unveiled as BAFTA’s new president, 50 years after his grandfather Prince Philip had the same role. William succeeds legendary director Lord Richard Attenborough, 86, in the coveted position, and it is the first time the future king has taken part in such a high-profile awards ceremony.

He walked the red carpet, greeted fans, and presented veteran actress Vanessa Redgrave with the Academy fellowship, the highest accolade the organisation can award.

William & Kate to Live in Birkhall after Marriage

This is from People UK — hardly the most reliable source…

Prince William will make his dad’s Scottish hideaway his home after he marries Kate Middleton. The couple have already spent several romantic weekends at remote Birkhall, on the Queen’s Balmoral estate.

And aides reckon Wills, 27, will pop the question there once he’s finished his helicopter training with the RAF. “They have fallen in love with Birkhall and Prince Charles is keen for it to be handed on to them when they wed, which is highly likely next year.”

Sources say the prospect of him marrying Kate next year is “very high”. One said: “He’ll have completed his training by then and will have run out of excuses for keeping Kate waiting.”

“It was the Queen Mother’s favourite retreat and when she gave it to Charles she was adamant it must remain a fixture in the lives of the senior royals. Charles and Camilla used it for their second honeymoon in 2005 and offering it to William and Kate is the perfect way to ensure its continued use.”

Prince William Photo Collaboration for Homeless Charity

Video from the charity Crisis

Prince William has posed for a set of charity photographs taken by a cameraman who was once homeless. Jeff Hubbard, 53, took photos of the prince for an exhibition by homeless charity Crisis. The photos were taken last January at Rankin’s studios in Kentish Town, north London, before William went to New Zealand and Australia.

William also took pictures of Mr Hubbard under the guidance of celebrity photographer Rankin. Together they have created a diptych, two images that are always shown together. The image will go on display at the forthcoming A Positive View exhibition at Somerset House, London from 10 March until 5 April 2010, after which it will be sold at auction in aid of Crisis.

Some publications have insinuated that the pictures — showing William with darker, fuller hair — have been airbrushed, but Hello! Magazine, who ran the exclusive, denied it.

William & Harry Plan Joint Official Trip to Africa

Prince William and Prince Harry are planning their first official tour together in South Africa later this summer.  The trip – slated around June – is expected to include attending one of England’s World Cup football matches.

William, president of the Football Association, will also use the visit to help boost England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup, as well as  charities in which he is involved.  The tour will also most likely include a visit to Harry’s Aids charity Sentebale in Lesotho.

Sentebale has been lauded for the great work it is doing in Lesotho.Prince Harry co-founded the charity Sentebale with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in memory of their mothers (Sentebale means ‘Forget me not’) to support orphans and vulnerable children in Lesotho. It is helping AIDS victims, disadvantaged children and the community at large via education and healthcare.

Much of its work is made possible by generous donations and volunteers so if you don’t have summer plans yet, it could be a wonderful option to consider. You could even spread the word at your place of work, whether you work in a supermarket chain or one of the finest blackpool hotels– and make a joint donation with colleagues. That might an easier and more effective way to make a difference than waiting until one is able to make the trip to Lesotho!

More information about the possible tour in June will no doubt come to light in the upcoming weeks. Both Princes have very demanding schedules. Between military training and charity work neither of them have much spare time. There will be much excitement and interest should a tour be confirmed, especially since it is the first joint tour of the Princes.

No official announcement has been made yet as the boys are waiting to find out whether they will be able to take a break from their military training at the same time. A Clarence House spokesman says: “We cannot confirm if Prince William and Prince Harry will be visiting South Africa during the summer. However, they are keen to use the spotlight on South Africa during the World Cup to highlight many other issues that the region is tackling. Equally, Prince William is keen to support the FA with its bid to host the World Cup in England in 2018.”
