Wills & Kate Tidbits

**updated with more stories**

At Nam Long Cocktail Bar Saturday Night

We know Prince William and Kate Middleton went to see the West End play War Horse on Friday night.  Now it seems they were at Nam Long in South Kensington on Saturday. The pair arrived at around 10pm where they spent the next four hours downing a mixture of champagne, beer and mojitos, finishing off with one of the establishment’s signature tipples, a Flaming Ferrari. Despite the potent mix of drinks, the bar’s owner Thai Dang insists the royal couple were ‘having fun but very well-behaved.’  Article: Daily Mail

Wills Tries to Pass as Ben Fogle

During a recent holiday at Sandringham with Kate, William made a light-hearted attempt to pass himself as TV presenter Ben Fogle when recognized at a newsagent’s shop.  They do share a resemblance, and it is said that some of Wills’ friends often call him Ben.  Article: Daily Mail

Pink Calls William a “Redneck”

The singer, who’s involved with PETA, told Q Magazine that she’s written to Prince William to express her disgust on how the royals treat animals.  “I wrote to him to protest about foxhunting and I figured he would be this stuffy, privileged asshole. But he’s like a redneck from the south. If you’re brought up shooting and hunting animals, if you really think it’s second nature and you’re blasting away then it’s hard to see the other point of view. You need educating.”  Article: Digital Spy

Camilla Takes Kate’s Charity to Her Heart

The Duchess of Cornwall has invited children from the charity Starlight to decorate the Christmas tree at Clarence House last week.  Kate’s family business Party Pieces has been involved with Starlight for over 2 years.  Was Kate — who is said to have become increasingly close to Camilla — an influence in this movement?  Maybe.  Maybe not. Kate Smiles for Photographers

Kate, who has lately shielded her face from paparazzi, is said to have displayed inconsistent press behavior by “smiling” at photographers at the recent Christmas Carol Charity ConcertOh really?  Was she smiling at the photographers or a nearby friend?  Also, the picture is definitely not exclusive.  It has been around the net for weeks.  Talk about milking the story… Article: Daily Express

Kate in Royalty Anguish

Kate Middleton has twice almost ended her romance over her fears of what joining the Royal Family will do to her and her family, and has had “a couple of major wobbles over the past year where she didn’t want to go on.” Her anguish is believed to be at the heart of the Queen’s recent fight for privacy. Sounds like pure speculation to me… Article: Daily Star

Kate’s a Fan of Jedward, Too?

The Daily Star says Kate is also a fan of  the X-Factor twins Jedward.  She plans to sling loads of work their way.  “Kate thinks the boys are hilarious. She’s going to book them for events though her party company,” says a source.  I thought Chelsy was the Jedward fan! Article: Daily Star

Kate Middleton Upping Charity Involvement

Warning: Katie Nicholl…  To me, this is another nonstory.  Party Pieces has been involved with Starlight since 2008, and has been helping in their Christmas and summer party programs.  More info here. Whether Kate plans more public exposure with this existing involvement remains to  be seen.

Kate Middleton is planning a Christmas warm-up for what Palace insiders are calling a ‘Princess-in-waiting role’ next year. The Middleton camp hopes the move – which will involve an increasing number of charity appearances as well as duties alongside Prince William – will help endear Kate to the British people.

With plans for a Royal wedding already in the early stages, Kate will prepare for her new role by fronting several charity parties in the run-up to Christmas for her parents’ company, Party Pieces.

She plans to raise her profile by doing more charity work and is genuine about her concerns – it is not done for some ulterior motive,’ says a source. ‘Kate cares, but in the past she has had to be careful where she treads. Party Pieces allows her to increase her charity work without being compared too closely to Diana, something courtiers are keen to avoid.”

And here’s another news bit with a very misleading headline…
Prince William and Kate Middleton Now have a Wedding Planner
Technically, it only says that Sarah Sienesi, a “wedding and event consultant,” has been hired as a lady-in-waiting to Sophie, Countess of Wessex. And that if Wills and Kate would in the future need a wedding planner, there’s one working for the Firm. Right Now, Sarah is concentrating on sporting events.

Update: The Yorks

Fergie , the Duchess of York and daughter Princess Beatrice battled torrential rain to attend a charity ball held in the refined surroundings of the Natural History Museum on November 29th. The Sugarplum Ball raised more than £75,000 to help build a family house for orphans in the SOS Children’s Village in Chipata, Zambia.

Goldsmiths student Beatrice wore a printed Issa kaftan-style dress, teamed with gold clutch bag. But the 21-year-old was outshone by her mother, who showed off her figure in a emerald green gown.

Fergie has been getting added protection as her former aide Jane Andrews escapes prison.  Jane is said to have never forgiven Fergie for sacking her when she was forced to cut back on staff.  She was subsequently jailed for killing her boyfriend with a kitchen knife when her refused to marry her.

William & Harry Set Up Charity; Plan their Future

**Updated** Every once in a while, stories like this remind us why these boys are absolutely right for Britain’s future.  It’s good to see them maturing into their roles, putting their inherited wealth to good use, and planning their future roles. Andrew Pierce of the Telegraph writes a very insightful piece about how William and Harry are navigating their lives and forging their royal identities.

According to the Telegraph, Prince William and Prince Harry, at 27 and 25, have a better understanding of their future roles and are in much better position than Prince Charles was at their age.  They are also in a unique position, in that the Queen is still in good health and Charles has plenty of years before William is expected to take over.

William and Harry can stay in the military – as suggested by their father to allow them as much of a private life as they can – for another decade unless otherwise necessary.  After the RAF, William is likely to go on secondment in Parliament, to learn about bill drafting, parliamentary timetables and traditions.  A diplomatic posting to either Australia or Canada are off-shots for either princes.

In the meantime, Wills and Harry, inheriting Diana’s legacy, have secretly set up a charity in aide of poor children and wounded servicemen.  They are believed to have donated a six-figure sum from the money their mum left them to help put up this foundation.

The organization was only ratified by the Charities Commission last month and will not be in a position to make grants for several years, but it will be a life-long commitment. The charity, still unnamed, will focus on three main areas: (1) young people, (2) sustainable development at home and overseas, and (3) veterans affairs & the welfare of wounded servicemen.
