Prince Harry is Set for New York (Again)

After his joint African tour with William, Prince Harry is heading to New York…

Prince Harry is to visit New York for the 2nd straight year this June. This time, it’s on a mission to improve treatment for British and American troops wounded in Afghanistan. He will visit military and veterans’ organisations on a fact-finding tour designed to explore how UK and US charities can work together and learn from each other to help severely wounded servicemen and women.

A senior aide said the Prince, who served in Afghanistan as a forward air controller two years ago, will be accompanied on his visit by two British officers representing veterans’ organisations and wants to act as a facilitator, encouraging charities in both countries to cooperate.

During the 3-day visit from June 25 to 27, Prince Harry will also play in the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic to raise funds for his African charity Sentebale. Last year, he raised £245,000 playing in the same match on New York’s Governors Island.

Fergie on Oprah

Sarah Ferguson on Oprah

Sarah Ferguson on Oprah

She may be in disgrace, again, but Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, still hasn’t lost her regal touch. Telling Oprah Winfrey on Tuesday about being caught on tape soliciting a £500,000 bribe from an undercover tabloid reporter posing as an Indian businessman, Ms. Ferguson kept referring to herself in the third person – the royal she.

I feel really sorry for her,” she said while watching herself sell access to her former husband, Prince Andrew. Ms. Ferguson cast her personal worst as an aha moment. “It’s almost like I’ve freed Sarah from the treadmill of her life, really, of her long life of trying to be perfect,” Ms. Ferguson said.

Other highlights:

  • She had been drinking that evening of the “Cash for Access” scandal
  • When she first met the impostor, she instinctively knew he’s a News of the World reporter, and told him so.  But after some misleading research and a promise of a confidentiality agreement, she went on to have another dinner and talk with him
  • Her initial urgency to get the $40,000 was to obtain money to help a friend.  That money has since been returned to News of the World.  The £500,000 was just a figure plucked from her head during their meeting to help her financial matters
  • She might need to file for bankruptcy.  She won’t reveal how much in debt she is, but it’s an “upward battle.”
  • She won’t confirm how much money she got from her divorce from Prince Andrew, as it would breach a confidentiality clause.
  • Fergie takes this personal low as a result of 25 years of a downward spiral – of hating herself, her poor self esteem, food battles, and not facing her demons as she should have.
  • In the end, Fergie admits “I think I’ve been like a huge, overtrusting, idiotic, stupid woman that went and looked for this situation, and that’s all I can say, really,” and hopes she can go forward and learn from this gigantic lesson.

One Backs Fergie

The Queen and Prince Charles have backed the shamed Duchess of York over the cash-for-royal-access scandal.

Fergie and ex-husband Prince Andrew met at Royal Lodge – the home they still share in Windsor Great Park – and she wept: “I’m so sorry.” Andrew, 50, revealed that the Queen and Charles had both called to say they would support him – even if he chose to stick by her.

A pal of Fergie’s said: “It meant so much to her because she is now confident that Andrew is looking out for her and it also shows she hasn’t completely alienated the Royal Family.”

Prince Harry Hailed King of Cool

Prince Harry is king of cool

Prince Harry is "king of cool"

Way to go, Harry!

Royal heart-throb Prince Harry has beat a host of singers and actors to the title of ‘king of cool’, as decided by a British men’s magazine.

GQ put him ahead of Twilight star Robert Pattinson and rapper Dizzie Rascal in the list.

It described him as a “soldier, ambassador, polo player, playboy”. The magazine writes that after a “few gaffes” in his youth, he turned his image around with his army stint in Afghanistan.

Robert Pattinson came in second.

Harry’s brother, Prince William, 27, failed to make the rundown of movers and shakers.

Prince William & Kate Middleton Weekend News Bits (May 30, 2010)

No news of wedding according to Queen’s Master of Music

We may have to wait a little longer for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding, according to the Queen’s Master of Music, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. Sir Peter, 75, who will be commissioned to write music for the ceremony, has not been given notice to start work by the Queen.

“I have attended various recent meetings at the Palace concerned with forward planning and there has been no mention of any wedding,” he says.

Royal commentator Tina Brown’s prediction that the couple would announce their marriage this Thursday now sounds a little optimistic.

Kate’s Big Date on plate

Supermarket Asda is designing a crockery range to mark the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton – before he has even proposed.

But Asda is jumping the gun with a commemorative collection of plates and mugs. The supermarket is determined to be the first off the mark when Wills finally pops the question.

Kate’s mum fuelled speculation when she let slip that June is expected to be a “very busy time” for the family. Asda insiders say they want to be ready for customer demand if an announcement is made, as the market for royal souvenirs is worth £10 million.

Wills is Bonkers for Dizzee

For realm, homies – the rapping royal has revealed he’s a mega fan of Bonkers genius Dizzee Rascal.

Wills went to Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival in Bangor, Wales, with his girlfriend Kate Middleton last week. Watching from the side of the stage, Wills was certainly a posh Boy In Da Corner. But the polo-playing Prince also proved he wasn’t Snoot Dog as he rapped along to evert word of his hero’s song.

A festival-goer says: “Wills got a helicopter into the sight and as soon as he landed, he said he wanted to see Dizzee. “He watched from the side of the stage when Dizzee was performing on stage with Florence and the Machine. Wills knew the words to every single line of Dizzee’s rap.”

Belle Robinson, owner of Jigsaw, said this during her interview with The Times UK:
[Kate Middleton briefly worked at Jigsaw as an accessories buyer.]

What’s the most lucrative work you have ever done?
“Jigsaw — but that has been a long-term investment. Signing up Kate Middleton wasn’t really that lucrative. There was an initial buzz, but it quickly died down.”

Prince Harry’s Lovelife According to Katie Nicholl

Likely another excerpt from Katie Nicholl’s new book entitled William and Harry, this weekend’s Daily Mail ran a story that chronicles Prince Harry’s lovelife — from his first love Emma Lippiat (who he dated on and off for 4 years), to his beginnings with current girlfriend Chelsy Davy, the ups and downs of their relationship, and his naughty encounters with Natalie Pinkham, socialite Astrid Harbord, mother-of-two Catherine Davies… plus a few waitresses.

As with all things Katie Nicholl, take everything with a grain of salt.
