Beatrice & Eugenie to Lose 24-Hour Protection?

Princess Eugenie with sister Beatrice, Trooping the Colour 2010

Princess Eugenie with sister Beatrice, Trooping the Colour 2010

It was claimed that the Duke of York’s daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, are to be stripped of their 24-hour police protection. The round-the-clock security measures afforded to Eugenie and Beatrice will end following a row about the costs of their bodyguards, reports say.

The claims come as Green politician Jenny Jones, a member of the Metropolitan Police Authority, said the police protection list needed thorough examination. She said: “It’s about time that the protection list was examined properly, and not simply wait for protected people to die before they can be crossed off the list. Not only do we protect partying junior royals, but also have 24/7 protection of at least one home of the often-absent multi-millionaire Blairs, in addition to protecting multi-millionaire ex-despotic dictators like Musharraf.  I just don’t understand why the taxpayer should pick up this very costly protection bill.”

Neither the Metropolitan police or Buckingham Palace said they could comment on matters of security following today’s reports.

The number of people who receive Scotland Yard protection is the subject of an ongoing secret review chaired by a retired Whitehall mandarin. The cost of safeguarding junior members of the Royal Family is one aspect that has come under considerable scrutiny during the review.

Queen Marks Birthday at Trooping the Colour Parade

The British Royal Family. Trooping the Colour 2010

The Queen has marked her 84th official birthday at the Trooping the Colour parade in central London.

She wore a light lilac outfit as she inspected rows of crimson-coated Guardsmen while the sun shone weakly over Horse Guards Parade.  The parade included more than 1,400 soldiers in the traditional uniforms of the Household Cavalry, Royal Horse Artillery and Foot Guards.

The Queen was accompanied on the short journey from Buckingham Palace by Prince Phillip, who underwent minor surgery on his left hand earlier this week.  Prince Charles also attended the ceremony despite suffering from a persistent chest infection and is scheduled to take three days off next week. He was accompanied the Duchess of Cornwall, who suffered a broken leg earlier this year and had the cast removed just two weeks ago

Also present were Princess Anne, and grandchildren Prince William, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Prince William & Kate Middleton Engagement Talk Continues

Prince William & Kate Middleton

Tina Brown, who in April told the world that June 3 and 4 had been pencilled for an engagement announcement between Prince William and girlfriend Kate Middleton, has this to say on why it didn’t happen:

She says Kate’s complaint over tennis pictures taken of her family over Christmas caused a rift between the couple, thus delaying the announcement.  According to Brown’s sources, William was furious over the pictures. He suspects someone Kate knows is tipping the paps off, and he wishes Kate were more upset about it.  The issue apparently became very heated that it delayed any engagment announcement possibly to November?

As usual, take this with a grain of salt.  Justifying our mistakes are we, Ms. Brown?  The Tanna suit started rolling in January.  William and Kate have gone skiing with the Middletons and were seen numerous times after.  I doubt such a distant event would impact any planned announcement.  More likely, there wasn’t any to begin with…

Prince William & Kate Middleton to have a Wedding Just like Diana’s

I thought previous reports say they’re trying to make it as different from Charles and Diana’s wedding as possible!…

An insider told the Daily Express: “William is dedicating his wedding day to his mother. He’s heartbroken she can’t be there. Princess Diana talked about what she wanted her sons’ weddings to be like even when she was pregnant with them.”

Sources close to William and Kate say the couple are already planning a wedding that would make his mother proud – from the music and the floral arrangements to her advice on love. Following Diana’s wishes, William plans to propose to Kate with a sapphire ring he inherited from his mother. Kate is also expected to pay tribute to Diana’s famous wedding gown by David and Elizabeth Emanuel.

It’s Business As Usual for Prince William

June 3 and 4 have come and gone — without any engagement announcement as previously suggested by Tina Brown. It was highly improbable, in the first place, especially with Prince William & Harry’s upcoming joint official tour to Africa.

Prince William spent the last 2 days doing what he’s been doing — playing polo for charity and becoming patron of social movements.

Prince William was instrumental in helping his team win a charity polo game that raised money for two of his favourite charities – Centrepoint and Mountain Rescue. A keen player, he helped his team Umbogo beat Cirencester Park four to three-and-half.

Several hundred spectators watched the Prince play an “excellent” game at the Cirencester Park polo club, Glos., on Sunday. Organisers said Kate Middleton, his girlfriend, did not attend the game after speculation the pair would announce their engagement last week fizzled.

In the same event, William has told how he took part in his first helicopter mountain rescue mission. Sadly, the Prince’s first taste of a real-life rescue attempt involving the RAF Search and Rescue force, ended in tragedy. The climber, who was suffering from severe head injuries after falling down a mountainside, died.

“I did my first mountain rescue the other day. It was amazing after all the training to see it all work in practice. But it was someone with head injuries. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive” he said.

Prince William backs bid to save playing fields

Prince William launched a nationwide campaign to prevent thousands of playing fields being sold off by granting them royal approval. The prince will become a patron of the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, which is aimed at slowing the decline of playing fields and giving millions more children the chance to play outdoors. The scheme is to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Members of the public will vote for their favourite playing fields and 2,012 will be designated as “Queen Elizabeth II Fields” over the next 3 years. Playing field owners will sign a legal deed with Fields in Trust, the organiser, to grant protection to the area beyond the existing planning laws.

William said: “The sad truth is that, over the years, thousands of playing fields have been lost to development and many more are under threat today. Being able to play outdoors is a basic right of childhood”

Kate Middleton “Gagged” by Royals

Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton

The Daily Express claims Kate Middleton is understood to have signed a confidentiality agreement to make sure she doesn’t reveal any royal secrets or sell her story to the press. Possible, but isn’t this speculation stemmed from Fergie’s recent interview with Oprah — which mentioned “confidentiality agreement” often?

Prince William’s girlfriend is believed to have signed the gagging contract when they briefly broke up in April 2007. The move was orchestrated by Clarence House to protect William should the relationship not go the distance. This not only explains Kate’s unwillingness to speak to the press but also why she has maintained such a low profile in recent years.

“Kate has been the soul of discretion throughout her relationship with William so she was never likely to speak to the newspapers but Clarence House wanted it in writing. It’s not very romantic but it shows how serious the relationship is.”

The Sunday Express has learned that royal insiders do not expect them to tie the knot until 2013. Speculation that they plan to marry in 2012 to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is wide of the mark, according to sources who say Palace staff do not want anything to upstage Her Majesty’s landmark occasion. Next year is also unlikely, with William starting his tour of duty in RAF Valley and Prince Philip’s 90th birthday in June.

Although the pair are said to be enjoying life away from the public gaze at William’s rented cottage on Anglesey, sources close to the Middletons say they are worried that Kate’s image is being irreparably damaged by her state of “limbo”. As one source put it: “There’s a sense Kate has been told to put up and shut up which is all well and good for William but doesn’t do much for her own reputation. She’s being portrayed as a doormat when she is anything but.”
