William & Harry’s Official African Tour 2010 – (Part 2)

Day 2, June 16, Botswana

Football, a vuvuzela horn, and meeting Joe Jonas…

Prince William experienced the piercing din of a vuvuzela at close range during the latest stop on his African tour. The 27-year-old was visiting the Coaching for Conservation project in the town of Maun, in Botswana, when he was handed one of the plastic horns. After failing to make a sound, William was forced to block his ear when he was out-blown by an 11-year-old boy.

On Wednesday, William saw youngsters taking part in Coaching for Conservation (C4C), a project which combines football training and wildlife protection. William volunteered to go in goal and try to save penalties taken by some of the children – most sailed past him into the net.

But the prince was almost upstaged by US singer Joe Jonas, part of the Jonas Brothers group, who was also visiting charity.

He gave a brief performance – to screams from local teenage girls – and one, Megan Butler, 16, admitted afterwards: “I like Prince William as well, but I was more excited about seeing Joe.”

Kate Middleton is NOT pregnant

False claims that Kate Middleton is pregnant

False claims that Kate Middleton is pregnant

If you think the British press is crazy, you should see what the American press has been writing about Prince William & Kate Middleton lately.  After OK magazine’s cover story of a wedding “just like Diana’s,” Star Magazine this week once again has the couple on the cover — this time saying Kate is pregnant, and that the palace is scrambling to cover up the scandal.

Clarence House, which normally doesn’t comment on the princes’ private lives, has this to say: “Complete nonsense,” “not true at all”

Prince William and Kate Middleton are not engaged — yet — and they certainly are not expecting a baby, despite one tabloid report.

A new story in Star magazine claiming that William’s girlfriend of seven years is pregnant is “complete nonsense,” a palace spokeswoman tells says. The couple have recently also had to dodge buzz that a royal wedding may be on the way.

William & Harry’s Official African Tour 2010

Day 1, June 15, Botswana

Snakes, cheetahs, and a ‘Chelsy Davy TV’…

Prince Harry, Prince William & an 8-ft python

Prince Harry, Prince William & an 8-ft python

Prince Harry jokingly threatened his brother Prince William with an 8ft long python as they visited a nature reserve in Botswana on their first joint Royal tour.

The Princes were invited to hold the non-venomous snake on their shoulders by game wardens at the Mokolodi Wildlife Foundation near Gaborone, and Prince Harry couldn’t resist taunting his older brother when he was given the head to hold. Sticking out his tongue to mimic the constrictor, Prince Harry, who is normally afraid of snakes, pointed it at his brother, who jerked his head back and said: “Don’t put it in my face!”

As the Princes picked up the African rock python, it urinated next to Prince Williams feet. “It’s peeing” he laughed. It’s obviously very relaxed.”

The princes also got to hold a pair of cheetahs.

During a visit to the Mophane Primary School in Gaborone – capital of Botswana – on Tuesday, Prince Harry was shown a ‘television’ created from an ice-cream tub embellished with his own name and that of his father, Prince Charles, on either side.

But the biggest tribute went to the prince’s Zimbabwe-born girlfriend, who was honoured on the top of the box with the words ‘Chelsy Davy TV’.

And what’s the media atmosphere like during the princes’ first joint official tour?  Robert Jobson reports:

“This royal “brand of brothers”shows off the modern, contemporary nature of monarchy. They, after all, are the immediate future for the family.

To me it significantly also shows what is NOT happening. At least right now. Despite the media clamour for a royal wedding for William and his long term girlfriend, neither brother seems in any rush to walk down the aisle.

All the talk among the foreign media, particularly the US networks, is still: “When are William and Kate Middleton going to get hitched?” But if any expect the prince to stroll out and make an engagement they have no chance.  They are, after all, still relatively young.

The interest, at least in media numbers, is as big as when I covered the Charles and Diana tours as a correspondent at their height in the early 1990s.  And yes, the princely double-act has enough wow factor to pull in the media. Being Diana’s boys on the road has legs, for now.  But it will have a shelf life. Royal tours need glamour, as well as worthy causes, and joking princes.

And for real glamour going forward the princes will need their ladies – Kate and Chelsy Davy should they make the grade as royal brides – at their sides.  Only then will the all singing all dancing royal roadshows of old return.

Chelsy Davy’s Grandmother Lost Everything to Mugabe’s Brutal Thuggery

Chelsy Davy in Africa

Behind the partying that will be the inevitable accompaniment of Prince William and Prince Harry’s visit to South Africa this week lies a much more sombre purpose. For Harry will be joined by his girlfriend Chelsy Davy as she returns to her homeland to comfort her grandmother following the death of her husband — a victim of Robert Mugabe’s brutal thuggery in Zimbabwe.

George Donald, a landowner in northern Zimbabwe, fell victim to Parkinson’s disease after he watched Mugabe’s men commandeer his farm and raze his house to the ground. He died virtually penniless at the age of 80.

Ian Donald, Chelsy’s uncle (mum Beverley’s brother) recalls how the vets plundered into their parents’ farm and home. “They discovered that their home had been vandalised. The roof was ripped off, every roof-tile had gone, every window had been chiselled out. Not a single thing was left and the farmstead was a shell.” He chronicles how their family struggled to build a second farm, and how the Davy brothers ultimately fled for Australia.

Of Charles Davy’s connection with the Mugabe regime, Ian Donald says Mr Davy has been hugely misrepresented by people who don’t understand how things work in Africa. ‘Or don’t want to understand.’ He adds that the reason Chelsy’s dad was able to hold onto some assets is due to his foreign investors — American links which the Zimbabwean government thought were too important to destroy.

Prince William Dons His Feathers Again

Wearing an appropriately patriotic cross of St George, Prince William took part in the ancient Order of the Garter Service before flying out of the country to support England’s World Cup campaign. He was created a knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter two years ago, joining other members of the Royal Family, senior politicians, and eminent public figures.

Dressed a blue velvet hat with extravagant ostrich feather plume, Prince William joined his grandmother, the Queen, for the annual procession through the streets of Windsor of the nation’s oldest order of chivalry, created by Edward III in 1348. Due to the absence of his father, the prince walked alongside his uncles, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward – whom he bears a remarkable resemblance to.

Hours after attending the ceremony William jetted out with his bodyguards to Africa, where he is due to embark on his first joint official tour with younger brother, Prince Harry, tomorrow.

Prince Harry Banned from Staying at Girlfriend’s Flat in Cape Town

Prince Harry has been banned from staying at girlfriend Chelsy Davy’s flat.

He had been hoping to spend the night there when he visits Cape Town to watch England play Algeria on Friday but Royal protection officers vetoed his plan. A source said: “Harry wanted to stay with Chelsy on Friday but he was told this was not possible.”

“Everyone in Cape Town knows where Chelsy lives and everyone knows Harry will be in the city.  Therefore it poses a huge security risk because it would be obvious where Harry is.”

Harry and his brother William will instead stay at an undisclosed location.
