An onlooker claimed that the 25-year-old prince continued to ride his horse while blood was visible on its flank, but St James’s Palace said he stopped playing as soon as the injury was spotted.

Under polo rules, riders who use their spurs excessively face disciplinary action ranging from a warning for a first offence to a fine of up to £50,000. They state: “Any player intentionally striking another player or any pony with his stick, or abusing his pony by excessive use of the whip or spurts shall be severely penalised.”  Also, “any spur likely to wound a horse is forbidden.”

Andrew Tyler, director of animal welfare charity Animal Aid, said: “It was a heartless and utterly selfish thing to do.”

However, St James’s Palace insisted that the prince came off the field as soon as he noticed his mount was injured, adding that horse and rider were able to return to the match after minor treatment.

Well done, Harry!

Army recruit Prince Harry is said to be “thrilled” after learning he passed his ‘ground school’ exam – a part of his Apache helicopter training course. The rigorous test is designed to assess his maths skills, a subject the prince readily admits is not his strong point.

Calling it a “huge honour” to learn to fly an “awesome helicopter”, he admitted that the training course would most likely be “one of the biggest challenges” of his life.

A Clarence House spokesman said: “Flying comes more naturally to Harry than the mathematical and scientific papers which have marked the start of his course.”

After passing the exam at his first attempt, the young royal joined his friends at a nightclub in Chelsea to celebrate. He hit papers for sporting a grey trilby.  He also attracted attention with the state of his apparently blood-flecked T-shirt when he left Maggies in Chelsea at 3am.

Hooked on Yoga?

Drum & bass DJ Goldie is helping his new pal Prince Harry “chill out” by introducing him to Bikram yoga. The ex-Bond villain is a huge fan of the technique where participants work out in temperatures of 105oF.

And the hardman has been boasting about its benefits to Harry after striking up a close friendship with the 25-year-old prince while filming his new talent show Goldie’s Band: By Royal Appointment.

A source close to the star said: “Goldie and Prince Harry got on like a house on fire. Goldie kept banging on about the benefits of Bikram and Harry was really interested.”

He downed wallet-busting Dom Pérignon champers in the VIP area of Whisky Mist when he arrived at his favourite London haunt after 11pm on Friday.

An onlooker said: “He was dancing and enjoying himself before going away for military training.”

It was revealed in June that Chelsy Davy has abandoned plans to stay in the UK, and has instead decided to go back home to Africa to pursue her legal career.   From latest reports, the couple are still together and believe they can work out a long-distance relationship.

Besotted Prince Harry is to have his girlfriend Chelsy Davy’s name tattooed near his crown jewels to prove his love for her. Romantic Harry has told pals he wants it inked into his royal rump as a sign that the couple are meant to stay together.

One pal explained: “He wants something that will stay private between her and him but something that will show Chelsy that he means to make it last. A ring is out of the question until his military training is over so this is the next best thing.”

The couple are likely to be apart for ages as he begins a gruelling eight-month pilot training course on Apache helicopter gunships. Chelsy will continue her law studies in Johannesburg, South Africa, while Harry is at the Army Air Corps centre, in Middle Wallop, Hampshire. And they may not see each other until Harry’s next leave from training. But he is determined to show Chelsy he won’t be slipping into his old ways of clubs and blondes while they’re apart.

The pal added: “Despite the problems caused by the distance, they are both certain they will make a go of it. Obviously because of who he is, Harry isn’t going to have her name on his knuckles. He has something a lot more private and intimate in mind. Just her initial and some kind of image. It has to be something that won’t show when he’s in uniform.”

Watch out, Arizona girls!  Prince Harry might be heading there…

Prince Harry’s high-flying military career is putting a new strain on his long-distance relationship with Chelsy Davy. Not only are the couple living on separate continents, it’s possible Harry’s training will take him to the other side of the Atlantic later this year or in early 2011 to learn to fly Apache helicopters in Arizona. The couple are trying to make their on-off relationship work following Chelsy’s move back home to Africa.

An Army source said: “Harry was all ready to fly the Lynx and when he found out that the training was in Africa, his mind was made up. He would have gone to Africa for at least a month because of his limited experience of desert flying conditions, particularly night-time landing in dusty conditions. He would also have been able to have a week to ten days’ leave afterwards, with his commanding officer’s permission, so he could have had a reas­onable break in Africa. When Harry found out he had got the Apache, he was delighted because it is a great achievement, but it changes things as far as Chelsy and Africa are concerned.”

Within the next fortnight, Harry will start an eight-month Apache conversion course at RAF Wattisham in Suffolk.

Prince Harry chats with Ronnie Wood at polo

One’s famous for being a hellraising rock ‘n’ roller, while the other’s known for being one of the more rebellious royals. But despite coming from very different worlds, perhaps Prince Harry and Ronnie Wood had plenty to talk about thanks to their reputations for being naughty.

In between the Prince’s games at the Asprey World Class Polo match in Surrey, the two men crossed the generation gap to share a joke together.

While the 25-year-old royal was playing polo to raise money for his charity Sentebale, the Rolling Stone, 63, was strictly a guest, enjoying the matches and food on offer.

Chelsy Davy’s cousin is  meow meow dealer

We all have bad seeds in our families.  This time, it’s revealed that Chelsy’s cousin is a drug dealer.  Another family scandal to talk about now that Kate Middleton’s drug-shamed Uncle Gary has been forgiven.

A cousin of Prince Harry’s girlfriend Chelsy Davy has been arrested for drug dealing. Cops caught Jordan Heppell, 18, with meow meow – mephedrone.

Heppell, of Crowthorne, Berks, bragged to The Sun: “I was probably selling 20 to 30 grams at £20 a go to about 20 people every week. I only did it to support my weed habit.” He said of Chelsy, 24: “I think she’ll be shocked.”

Police in Camberley, Surrey, also found horse tranquilliser ketamine and marijuana when they searched Heppell’s car. He was arrested for intent to supply class B and C drugs and released on police bail until September.

His dad Ian Donald is the brother of Chelsy’s mum Beverley.

Prince Harry visits Midhurst ’superdog’ charity

Prince Harry got a first-hand glimpse of “superdogs” which carry out everyday chores on behalf of disabled people during a visit to West Sussex.

The prince watched puppies being trained to help wounded military personnel and civilians carry out routine activities.  He also saw fully trained dogs in action at Canine Partners in Midhurst.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “The dogs are carefully matched to the applicant’s needs and lifestyle, no matter how challenging. They are trained to help with everyday tasks such as opening and shutting doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches and getting help in an emergency.”

“The charity aims to train dogs to meet the needs of people with even the most complex disabilities, including members of the Armed Forces.”

Fearne Cotton gets a royal kiss from Prince Harry

For most, it was a swift handshake and a ‘how do you do?’ lasting a few seconds from Prince Harry. But it seems he could not let an awards do he was hosting last night pass without sharing a sneaky kiss with Fearne Cotton.

The royal gave the Radio 1 presenter a warm reception as he greeted her at The Royal British Legion’s Friends of the Forces Awards in London. The event celebrates the efforts of those who have made an ‘exceptional contribution’ to the well-being of the Armed Forces and their families.

Prince Harry, who previously served in Afghanistan, said the ‘thoughtfulness and love’ of the public had a huge effect on soldiers’ morale. “Much has rightly been made of the extraordinary valour and professionalism of our Armed Forces serving on operations overseas. Less has been made of the magnificent response to that contribution by the British people. From my own time in Afghanistan, I believe I have a genuine feeling for just how much the support, thoughtfulness and love of those left back home means to our men and women in uniform overseas. The award winners tonight need to know – if they don’t already- quite how fundamental an effect what they do has on raising the moral of those in harms way, far from home.”

The Prince kicked off the evening by presenting an award to two youngsters who raised more than £400 for charity.

Prince Harry visits RAF base

Prince Harry was shown a state-of-the-art armoured vehicle used to detect deadly gases on the battlefield as he paid a visit to an RAF base on Wednesday.

Harry was briefed on the capabilities of the German-made Fuchs vehicle as he toured the RAF Honington base in Suffolk.  He also watched a training session, met with servicemen’s wives and opened a new mess while he was there.

Group Captain Nick Bray welcomed Harry’s visit to the Honington base.  “It was an exciting visit for everybody, a huge shot in the arm for people’s moral. We were very interested to meet him and benefitted immensely from his enthusiasm and good humour,” he was quoted as saying the Bury Free Press.

Fergie Sacks Staff to Prevent Bankrupcy

The cash-strapped Duchess of York has been forced to sack her entire team of seven full-time staff to save money. In another blow, the Duchess has also parted company with Kate Waddington, her long-suffering public relations adviser who worked hard to improve the Duchess’s battered public image.

The cutbacks will also affect three more staff who were on temporary contracts and worked for the Duchess on an ad-hoc basis. In total she should save an estimated £700,000 a year. Fergie made personal phone calls to each of her 12 tearful flunkies to explain why their jobs had gone.

But despite being £2million in the red, next week she flies to Necker Island, Sir Richard Branson’s luxury home in the British Virgin Islands.

Svelte and far from shy, Princess Beatrice shows how marathon training has transformed her figure from the curvy one that in the past drew unflattering comments. The 21-year-old, said to have shed a stone and a half, displayed her new slimline look as she showered on the back of a luxury yacht in St Tropez. With her on holiday is boyfriend Dave Clark.

The fifth in line to the throne had been mortified by pictures of herself in a blue bikini during a beach holiday on St Barts in 2008 and admitted being ‘terribly upset’ by unkind remarks.

Chelsy heading for Johannesburg?

According to Katie Nicholl, Chelsy Davy is giving up previous plans to train as a solicitor in London, will be traveling through December, and moving to Johannesburg in January.

‘She doesn’t want to live in Cape Town because all her friends have moved to Jo’burg,’ says a friend.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry did not relish being the butt of the joke himself. The Prince apparently had a ’sense-of-humour failure’ at his friend Mark Dyer’s wedding in Wales when chums continually ribbed him about his on-off relationship with Chelsy.

‘Quite a few people kept saying “you’ll be next” to Harry, and making remarks about “walking the plank” with Chelsy,’ says a spy. He laughed along at first but it wore thin pretty quickly.’

Kate Middleton was all smiles yesterday as she watched Prince William take part in a polo match.

The 28-year-old beamed as she chatted with a male friend in the glorious sunshine at the Beaufort Polo Club in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. Wearing a belted light green summer dress and carrying an enormous bag, she was there to watch her Royal boyfriend and his brother Prince Harry compete in a charity event.

William, 28, and his 25-year-old brother were taking part in the Chakravarty Cup and were left with big smiles on their faces after their team won the match. It was put on to raise funds for charities including the English Schools’ Swimming Association and Wellchild, which helps sick children and their families across the UK.

Last year the event, which is named after Saroj Chakravarty, a patron of The Prince’s Trust, raised more than £50,000.

About how she started: Katie’s route to fame started when she witnessed Harry’s partying first hand as a young show business reporter covering an event at the Kensington Roof Gardens. “I had gone outside onto the terrace when Harry suddenly emerged from the VIP room. ‘You look freezing,’ he said as he tried to light his cigarette. ‘Do come and join my party. I was welcomed in and I was trusted.”

About her book: “I have been told Prince William was surprised that I found out about his first love, Rose Farquhar.”

About William & Kate Middleton: “”The relationship hasn’t always been smooth but they are making the most of their freedom. Other tidbits: William and Camilla’s daughter, Laura, used to have the most awful rows. But William got on with Camilla from the start. Harry, on the other hand, took more time to warm up to his stepmum.

Is Harry a Gleek? Glee may have found itself a new follower, or Gleek as they are known, in the form of Prince Harry.

Cory Monteith, who plays Finn Hudson in the hugely popular programme, cosied up to the royal at the Wireless Festival in London’s Hyde Park on Friday night. Tweeting the picture of the new friends for his fans, Cory wrote: “Look who I bumped into in London!”

Attends Wedding Sans Chelsy Davy

Prince Harry turned up all alone to watch one of his old friends tie the knot this weekend after leaving girlfriend Chelsy Davy at her family home in Zambia.

Sporting a golden tan after his trip to cheer on England in South Africa, he took on the role of usher at the wedding of his former equerry Mark Dyer and Texan heiress Amanda Kline. Dressed in a smart grey morning suit, the 25-year-old prince arrived with a group of friends at St Edmund’s Church in Crickhowell, Powys.

His brother William and girlfriend Kate Middleton were also originally on the guest list for the wedding, which should have taken place in April. However, it was postponed after the volcanic ash cloud prevented the bride’s family from travelling to Britain. William and Kate had accepted the invitation, but in the end the prince had to spend the day at RAF Valley in Anglesey, where he is training as a search and rescue pilot.

Prince Harry & Chelsy Davy - still together?

Harry sure is making time for Chelsy.  Are they still together? Are they trying to work things out? Only time will tell…

Prince Harry has made a 7,500 mile dash – to spend just 48 hours with on-off girlfriend Chelsy Davy. The 25-year-old royal jumped on a plane after his weekend charity trip to New York and flew more than 18 hours to spend just two days with Chelsy and her family at their new home in Zambia.

Before the New York trip, Harry & Chelsy were spotted having lunch in Cape Town.

Prince Harry has been left reeling after his girlfriend of six years revealed that she was going to quit London to move back to Africa to be with her family. Chelsy moved to England three years ago to be closer to the third in line to the throne and was studying to become a trainee solicitor. But despite being accepted by a prestigious City law firm, homesick Chelsy told Harry she just missed home too much.

Senior royal sources have stressed that the couple have not split up but friends say Chelsy’s decision has put a huge strain on the relationship. Later this month Harry will embark on a gruelling training course with the Army Air Corps to become an Apache attack helicopter pilot – with the promise of a return to the frontline in Afghanistan in as little as 18-months time.

His timetable will offer him precious little opportunity to jet off to Africa in order to keep his relationship alive.

a baseball pitch, a reception for Sentebale, and UNICEF…

Prince Harry received a rapturous welcome as he threw the first pitch at a New York baseball game. The 25-year-old prince looked nervous as he walked out in front of the 40,000 people to throw the first ball at the New York Mets’ Citi Field stadium.  He looked genuinely relieved when the ball slammed into the catcher’s glove and the crowd cheered wildly.

Prince Harry didn’t stay for the full game, leaving after only 50 minutes. While most who are invited to pitch the first ball stay for the game because it’s such a big event, Prince Harry left for a “private engagement,” reportedly to watch the World Cup.

He later traveled to Connecticut for a function at Greenwich Country Club. He spoke about his involvement in Sentebale and used the event to drum up support for the children’s charity.  Among the well-heeled guests was his cousin, Princess Beatrice, who is currently on summer vacation from university.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) opened its Emergency Operation Centre this weekend to Prince Harry, who got a firsthand look at how the UN agency uses mapping technology to coordinate relief and rescue.   Harry is patron of the charity Map Action, so the visit to UNICEF built on his understanding of what emergency organizations do.

Day 3, June 27, 2010

taking a fall during polo…

On the prince’s last day in New York, he played a round of polo on Governor’s Island. Playing at the third annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic  – where tables were going for up to £33,000 – Harry took a rather nasty tumble and almost did a somersault as he landed on the grass. Despite this, he got back in the saddle, and finished playing in the fundraiser.  Sadly, his team lost 5-6.

The prince also ran in a five-mile race with wounded war veterans. It’s an issue close to his heart.
