Prince William Taking Over Queen’s Duties — Not!

Sundays often bring the juiciest and most imaginative of royal gossip.  This weekend, The Daily Mail published two articles saying Prince William is secretly being groomed to be the “Shadow King.”  Treasury documents implicated that he is upping his royal functions next year to relieve the aging Queen as well as prepare himself for kingship.  It suggested that the Queen sees Wills – not Charles – as the future of the monarchy.  Read the article.

Katie Nicholl published a similar story, talking largely about how William is taking on a larger role, how his girlfriend Kate Middleton plans to do more charities next year, and how Camilla dislikes overseas tours.  Read the article.





BUT alas, Buckingham Palace has spoken.  This morning it denounced the Daily Mails claims, calling it a “total and utter fabrication.”  A royal spokesperson told BBC that the Queen is cutting back on her engagements due to her age, but there are absolutely no plans to by-pass Prince Charles.

“Prince William is gradually undertaking more public engagements as he takes on more patronage. However, his focus remains for the foreseeable future on his military career.”

Hah!  Why am I not surprised?  Now let’s hope the Daily Mail will reign in their imaginations and check their stories before they hit the streets.

William Passes Flying Exams

**Updated** Prince William has passed his exams with “flying colours”. Wills, 27, was said to be “relieved, pleased and exhausted” after getting through the tough tests as part of his training to become an RAF search-and-rescue helicopter pilot.

A St James’s Palace source said: “It’s a pretty tough course with a relatively high drop-out rate – but he came through it reasonably comfortably.”

William will receive his wings January next year and move on to the next phase of training after his official trip to Australia and New Zealand.  The next step involves learning to operate Sea King helicopters in RAF Valley, in Anglesey, North Wales.  He is also expected to be stationed in the Falklands for 3 months as part of training, and should be fully operational by early 2011.

Now that his exams are done, Prince William and brother Prince Harry are free to attend The Sun Military Awards on December 15, Tuesday, at London’s Imperial War Museum.  The Millies recognizes incredible deeds by men and women in uniform. Prince Charles, its founder, recently hosted the VIP panel of Millies judges at Clarence House, where they ploughed through more than a thousand nominations for the awards.

Camilla’s Illegal Car Park

Having the press follow you around should be tough, as they catch you doing everything — good and bad.  Kate Middleton was caught on her cell phone while driving last year.  Princess Beatrice had her BMW stolen after she left the keys in the ignition.  And last week, Camilla’s busted for parking in a double yellow lined area while doing some Christmas shopping…

The Duchess of Cornwall’s black Land Rover Discovery was illegally parked for around two hours – but managed somehow to avoid acquiring a ticket. Her car, driven by a Royal detective, was at first parked on a single yellow line for around 50 minutes outside an antiquarian bookshop.

Camilla was shopping in Holt, a historic town near the Queen’s estate at Sandringham in Norfolk. She wandered around shops with two women friends while hunting for gifts. Camilla bought several volumes, possibly as gifts for book-loving Charles.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: ‘She wasn’t driving and it’s a matter of security where the car is parked.’

Adorable!  The Sun shows a couple of amazing pictures featuring Prince Charles and Princess Anne as toddlers.  The black and white pictures show them alongside their mum and dad, then Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

It appears that the family was sharing a rare moment with the Queen Mother, King George VI, and Princess Margaret.  It is believed the shots were taken in 1951 by a member of the Buckingham Palace staff — before King George VI’s death in 1952.

The photos are due to be sold at an auction in Colchester next week.

Pippa Middleton has once again hit the ice!  Kate’s little sister attended the VIP opening of Skate hosted by Tiffany and Co held at Somerset House on November 16, 2009 in London, England.  Two years ago, William and Kate surprised locals by skating in the same rink.

Prince Charles has Gallstones? – Not!

**Updated** The Telegraph has issued an apology to Prince Charles for the story below.  Apparently, his hospital visit was for a routing check-up, and there was no heart scare to begin with.  [Telegraph Apology]

Prince Charles received four hours of tests at King Edward VII’s Hospital in Marylebone after suffering what he believed at the time to be heart problems.

“Charles had sharp pains in his upper right arm and shoulder and was convinced that he was having a heart attack,” says a friend of the Prince. “He was rushed to hospital and underwent all manner of tests.  He was utterly relieved to discover that the pains were nothing to do with his heart, but were caused by a problem with his gall bladder. He is now trying to cut fat out of his diet in an effort to avoid an operation. He also likes to thinks that alternative treatments will be useful.”

Sounds like gallstones, which symptoms can be controlled with a low fat diet.
