Prince Harry’s New York Visit 2010

Day 1, June 25, 2010

West Point & the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum…

Prince Harry started his three-day visit to New York with a bang yesterday at West Point, where the camouflage-clad lieutenant shot target practice with American cadets.

Before heading to Manhattan, Harry landed at the military academy by helicopter. He hopped in the back of a Humvee and went straight to the firing range for live-ammo exercises. He fired an M4 rifle alongside cadets at popup, silhouette targets as far as 300 meters away.

“He clearly knows what he’s doing,” said Col. Casey Haskins, an academy instructor. “He clearly knows how to shoot. He clearly knows how to move.”

From West Point, Harry traveled down the Hudson to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, where he spoke about the long military ties between the U.S. and the UK.

“American and British forces have fought shoulder-to-shoulder for 100 years,” he said, adding that the countries should forge stronger links between their veterans. We in Britain can learn from the American culture of charity, and from the great pioneering work in the fields of care, prosthetics and rehabilitation,” he said.

Prince Harry & Chelsy Davy Spotted in Cape Town

Does this mean they’re still together? Quite possibly.  Time will tell if the relationship lasts… (or if the rumours are true at all)

When Chelsy Davy announced that she was giving up on her life in England and moving back to Africa, it didn’t look good for her relationship with Prince Harry.  So perhaps it’s no surprise that Harry quickly found a window in his official tour of the continent to devote two days to his girlfriend.

On Tuesday, the two chain-smoked and chatted for more than an hour as they had lunch with a friend at the fashionable Grand Cafe restaurant in Granger Bay, Cape Town.  Then they returned to the beachside apartment owned by Miss Davy’s multi-millionaire father.  There will surely have been some difficult moments during the pair’s summit.

And although royal sources say the couple, who holidayed in Zambia this month, are still ‘very much an item‘, friends warn Miss Davy’s decision has put a strain on the relationship.

Prince Harry is about to start a gruelling training course with the Army Air Corps to be an Apache attack helicopter pilot, with the promise of a return to Afghanistan’s frontline in 18 months. And his timetable will permit few chances to visit Africa.

However, that is where Miss Davy’s heart is, a friend has said. “‘The only way I can see this relationship working in the long term is for Harry to give up his royal life in England and move to Africa. But it’s unlikely he’ll ever be allowed to do that. For now, they are just going to take things as they come.”

Prince Harry Evokes Memories of Diana

Prince Harry carries on Princess Diana’s legacy with visit to Mozambique minefield

Thirteen years after Diana, Princess of Wales drew the world’s attention to the horrors of land mines, Prince Harry has rekindled her legacy with a visit to a minefield in Mozambique. The Prince spent two days learning about the work of the HALO Trust, the same British charity that the Princess so famously visited in Angola eight months before her death. The Daily Telegraph understands that the Prince is so passionate about the work of HALO that he is now considering taking on a formal role with the charity.

Both he and his brother, Prince William, have maintained a close interest in the charity’s work, and have wanted to visit the minefields “for years”, according to one Royal aide, who said the trip was “very much an opportunity for the Prince to follow in his mother’s footsteps”.

The private visit to the Cahora Bassa minefields in the Tete province was kept secret until the Prince had left Mozambique, partly because of fears it would overshadow the official tour of southern Africa he and Prince William undertook last week.

As well as meeting victims of landmine blasts, including a 14-year-old boy who lost a leg last year and a 50-year-old man who lost both eyes and one arm, the Prince was taught mine-clearing techniques and personally attached a detonator to a live mine before carrying out a controlled explosion from a safe distance.

Joker Harry: Our mad mum

Prince Harry has joked about his mum Diana’s madcap antics – and said: “Mad would be one word to describe her!” He made the comment when asked what the Princess would have made of the charity work he and elder brother William carry out in Africa.

Harry, 25, said: “Every day, whatever we do, wherever we are and whoever we’re with, I always wonder what she’d think – what she’d be doing – if she was with us now. If she’d be sitting here having a laugh, whether she’d be in the background sticking her tongue out – or whether she’d be playing football with the children.

“That’s what keeps us going every day – that thought of what she’d be like if she was around today.”

Did Prince Harry & Chelsy Davy Split Up (Again)?

Prince Harry & Chelsy Davy break up (again)

Prince Harry & Chelsy Davy break up (again)

This weekend brings a new explosive rumour: that Prince Harry and his on-off girlfriend of six years Chelsy Davy have once again split up.  The reason: Chelsy plans to move back to South Africa.  Actually, two separate news sources (News of the World, The Daily Mail) mention Chelsy’s plan to move back home.  But they give conflicting stories about her current relationship status with Prince Harry.  The Daily Mail and Richard Palmer’s tweets say although Chelsy’s moving back to South Africa, she and Harry are still an item.

Maybe they’ve decided to break up for good.  Maybe they’ll try to work it out.  Maybe this is why Prince Harry dreams of living in Africa.  Maybe none of this is true…

Since we don’t expect any statement from the couple, only time will tell the truth.  It may take months before the actual situation is revealed.  Ah, the agony!

From News of the World:

Chelsy is moving to South Africa this week to begin a legal career and has told him they are OVER. The pair have had an on-and-off relationship for six years but friends say the spark has finally gone.

Chelsy told friends: “We’re finished. This is a new beginning for me. I want to start my career in South Africa where I plan to spend the rest of my life. I don’t want to live in Britain.”

An insider said: “It was a gradual end to the relationship. It whimpered out. It’s not practical with Harry’s commitments to the Army and his family to be in a relationship with someone in a different country. It was an obvious time for a clean break. The spark is gone and she’s focused on moving back to be where her heart lies.”

The Daily Mail’s take:

Chelsy Davy is said to have had a furious row with Prince Harry. The couple apparently fell out after Chelsy told Harry she was homesick and planned to move back to Africa to be closer to her family in Zambia. Sources close to the couple also say she expressed doubts about starting her graduate job at top law firm Allen & Overy.

However, this is not the first time their relationship has faltered, with the couple separating in January of last year before getting back together eight months later.

A source said: ‘Chelsy and Harry have just been on a two-week holiday to Zambia where they were very loved up. But she’s talking about going back – that’s what the row was about. Once his World Cup duties are over, Harry and Chelsy plan to meet in Africa to patch things up.’

‘I believe Chelsy is moving back to Africa. They haven’t split up, they’re still together but have a few things to work through.’

Day 4, June 18, Cape Town

A paediatric hospital visit, and it’s off to a disappointing World Cup match…

Prince William and Prince Harry traveled to Cape Town hoping to see an England win after a disappointing opening 1-1 draw with the USA. The princes had predicted a victiory for England, with William urging the team to ‘win, win, win’. But sadly, it turned into a goalless draw against Algeria.

A professional lip reader  said Prince William branded England’s game “a mess.” Though when asked about England’s performance, William, who is president of the FA, spoke instead about the fans, praising them for the way they got behind their team, despite the booing towards the end. ‘You could hear the England fans over the vuvuzelas which is quite impressive because there is quite a noise from vuvuzelas,’ he said.

Prince Harry was similarly upbeat. “It was a draw, we can still top the group, which is fantastic news. We are all really looking forward to next week. A win is a win next week no matter how many we score. It would be nice to see the team really enjoying it and actually smiling and playing football, the football that we all know they can play.”

Day 5, June 19, Johannesburg

David Beckham, Prince William and Prince Harry were all handsome smiles at a reception Saturday to back England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.  Talking about the fan who managed to get into the team’s dressing room, William joked that he and Harry let the intruder in by leaving the door open.

Soon to Come: TV interview with the Princes…

Watch for a 30-minute interview with Prince William and Prince Harry for ITN, to be broadcast later this week.  Here’s a preview:

Prince Harry has revealed that he thinks about his late mother Princess Diana ‘every day’ – and wants to live in Africa because it is the only place on earth where he can truly be himself. Harry, who vowed when he was 18 that he would continue Diana’s humanitarian work with AIDS victims in Africa, also said that he knows his role in the hierarchy of the Royal Family: “supporting his slightly balding brother” Prince William.

The Princes used the 30-minute programme to talk about their love of Africa and the charity work they have been carrying out in some of the poorest countries in the world.

visiting Sentebale & Lesotho’s children…

Prince Harry in Lesotho

Prince Harry in Lesotho

Prince Harry and Prince William are on a two-day visit to Lesotho, where Harry’s Sentebale charity – set up in memory of his mother – helps vulnerable children. They visited a remote village in one of the world’s poorest countries.

William and Harry met children infected with HIV. Wearing a traditional tribal blanket and a beanie hat, Harry rode a pony alongside his brother to the village of Semongkong before he and William visited schools supported by the charity for village children and nomadic shepherd boys. They also took part in a friendly soccer match with the Lesotho orphans

Prince Harry wants to be a photographer or surfer, or live in Africa…

Later, the princes traveled to the palace of the Lesothan king. In a confidence-building exercise through Mamohato Network Club, which allows HIV-infected youths to work together without being stigmatized for their disease, Prince Harry said that his dream job would be to be a surfer, helicopter pilot or wildlife photographer. He also dreams of living in Africa, a fact which has reportedly caused Prince Charles some concern.

Prince William just wants to be a successful helicopter pilot… and to be happy, lucky and caring.

Prince William and Prince Harry will travel to South Africa tomorrow, to watch the England vs. Algeria deciding match.
