Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy are clearly back together. But like other royal girlfriends, surely the decision to give the relationship another go isn’t so simple. There’s the painful reality of dating or marrying a royal — endless days of haute couture, ribbon-cutting and social duties. One has to have the tenacity to endure life in a fishbowl and, as Diana and Fergie experienced, ride the roller coaster of being the media’s cash cow or whipping target. What crazy girl would want such a life? Here lies the dilemma of free-spirited Chelsy who, despite being the perfect girl for Harry, is said to still recoil in horror when the prospect of being a fully paid-up member of the Royal Family is raised.
These issues are very real, IMO, not just for Chelsy but also for Kate Middleton. These girls, after all, are born to families with sufficient wealth and power to begin with. They could have easily chosen to live private, comfortable lives with equally rich opportunities. So like Diana and Fergie before them, they must both love their men deeply to choose to be in the relationship. And simply for this, they deserve our respect.

This animated card has their faces superimposed on a group of breakdancing elves. The jokey video has been emailed to hundreds of friends this week and can even be downloaded for $5 from a specialist website. Also featured in the card are Chelsy’s brother Shaun, and her best friends Kirsten and Pegs.
